Washington’s ‘New Gaza’ Project Meets Gulf Pushback

Trump’s Gaza reconstruction plan envisions rebuilding only within areas under Israeli control in the strip

Saudi Arabia and the UAE are pushing back against US President Donald Trump's plan to construct roughly half a dozen residential regions on the eastern half of Gaza, which is currently under Israeli control, The Times of Israel reported on 2 November.

Citing two Arab diplomats familiar with the matter, The Times of Israel said that Trump and his real estate developer son-in-law, Jared Kushner, have proposed the plan to donors in the Gulf to build the “new Gaza” on the eastern side of the strip only, which is now under direct Israeli control.

Following the 11 October ceasefire agreement, Israeli forces withdrew to the east of a “Yellow Line” drawn up during the negotiations to divide Gaza into two parts. Hamas remains in control of the territory to the west of the line.

The partial withdrawal leaves Israeli forces in direct control of at least 53 percent of Gaza.

Trump’s plan to build residential areas in the Israeli-controlled east of Gaza reportedly envisions the Israeli army “gradually withdrawing to the other side of the Gaza border and leaving the Strip altogether,” The Times of Israel wrote.

❗️UN rapporteur: Israel’s mass killing of Palestinian women has desensitized the world to atrocity

UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women Reem Alsalem has condemned Israel for what she described as the systematic killing and abuse of Palestinian women, warning that global inaction has made such atrocities appear acceptable.

Speaking during a UN briefing on Palestinian rights, Alsalem said, “What happens in Palestine does not stay in Palestine,” stressing that the mass killing of women and girls has revealed the extent of international complacency toward crimes committed by Israel.

She said Israel’s actions — including large-scale bombardments of homes, displacement of families, and the deliberate targeting of civilians — have killed “thousands” of women and girls, turning Gaza into what she called a testing ground for impunity.

❗️California law challenged for silencing criticism of Israel under the guise of fighting antisemitism

The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) has filed a federal lawsuit challenging a new California law that it says conflates criticism of Israel and Zionism with antisemitism, posing a direct threat to free speech in classrooms.

The law, signed last month by Governor Gavin Newsom, establishes a state Office of Civil Rights to combat antisemitism, but educators and students argue that its vague language leaves them uncertain about what they can say or teach regarding Israel’s war on Gaza and the political ideology of Zionism.

According to the complaint, the law’s failure to define antisemitism gives the impression that teachers could face punishment “if they expose their students to ideas, information, and instructional materials that may be considered critical of the State of Israel and the philosophy of Zionism.”

Filed on behalf of teachers, students, and the Los Angeles Educators for Justice in Palestine, the suit argues that the law erases the distinction between antisemitism and legitimate criticism of Israeli policy. One plaintiff, middle school teacher Jonah Olson, said he now fears disciplinary action for explaining to his students that being Jewish does not necessarily mean supporting Israel. Parents involved in the case say the measure will stifle open discussion and prevent their children from learning about diverse perspectives on Israel, Palestine, and the region.

FBI And Twitter Met On The Eve Of The Midterms

The newly uncovered email exposes a quiet intersection of government power and social media control just days before voters went to the polls.

A Freedom of Information Act lawsuit by Judicial Watch has brought to light an FBI email showing federal agents met with Twitter executives only four days before the 2022 midterm elections.

The message, dated November 3, 2022, arranged a “touch point meeting” the next day to discuss “potential changes” to Twitter’s “content moderation policies” and “PRC networks of activity.”

Only one name in the correspondence was left unredacted. It identified Laura E. Dehmlow, who was then section chief of the FBI’s Foreign Influence Task Force.

Every other sender and recipient was concealed. Judicial Watch said the timing and focus of the meeting highlight how government agencies were communicating with social media companies during a critical political period.

“This smoking-gun email shows that the Biden FBI were working with Big Tech to censor Americans just before a key election,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.

The record was obtained as part of Judicial Watch v. US Department of Justice (No. 1:23-cv-01163), which sought to compel the FBI and Justice Department to release information related to their interactions with Twitter about censorship and election-related issues.

The email was written just days after Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter on October 27, 2022.

The subject line read “RE: Midterm Election Touch Point Meeting with Twitter.”

The agenda for the meeting included two items: “Recent disclosure of the three PRC [People’s Republic of China] networks of activity (WAPO article)” and “Any potential changes to Twitter’s account verification and content moderation policies.”

A response from a Twitter contact said, “Thanks [redacted] Looking forward to meeting tomorrow. Can you also add [redacted] to the invite? He’ll be joining us from the legal side of the house.”

The Washington Post article mentioned in the message, published on November 1, 2022, was titled “MAGA porn, hate for Trump: China-based accounts stoke division.” The FBI’s email also carried a notice clarifying that it “contains neither recommendations nor conclusions of the FBI” and was “not to be distributed outside your organization.”

Although the Twitter Files had already shown that the FBI was meeting regularly with Twitter and flagging posts before the 2022 election, this newly released record reveals a specific example of such coordination occurring within days of the vote.

The details have added to growing concern about the degree to which federal agencies were influencing what Americans could see and share online during election season.

BREAKING | Israeli Knesset advances death penalty bill targeting Palestinian detainees

Israel’s Knesset National Security Committee has advanced a bill that would impose a mandatory death sentence on Palestinian detainees convicted of killing Israelis, after National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir renewed pressure on the coalition and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu signaled his support.

The proposal, which had previously been delayed over concerns it could endanger Israeli captives still held in Gaza, is now being rushed to a first reading in the plenum as early as Wednesday, reflecting the government’s ongoing shift toward harsher, exclusionary measures against Palestinians.

What makes the bill especially punitive is that it is drafted to apply only to those who kill Israeli citizens (often during armed acts of resistance), while explicitly not applying to Israelis who kill Palestinians. Far-right ministers are insisting that courts have no discretion, framing it as “deterrence,” but the result is the consolidation of a two-tier legal system in which Palestinians can be executed by law and Jewish Israelis cannot, even in cases of racially or nationally motivated killings. Netanyahu Greenlights Death Penalty Bill For Palestinian Prisoners

The bill will require three readings in the Knesset before it can be passed into Israeli law

The National Security Committee in Israel’s Knesset is moving forward with a bill to impose the death penalty on Palestinians convicted of deadly attacks and operations that killed Israelis.

According to the Israeli government’s top official on captives’ affairs, Gal Hirsch, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu supports the move.

Israel’s National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, who has long called for the execution of Palestinian prisoners, thanked Netanyahu for supporting the bill in a post on social media.

“I thank the prime minister for his support for Otzma Yehudit’s bill for the death penalty for terrorists, but the court must not have any discretion – every terrorist who goes out to murder must know that the death penalty will be imposed on him. It’s time for justice!” Ben Gvir said.

Israeli media reports said the bill could have its first reading as soon as Wednesday.

Report: US Preparing Mexico Mission Against Cartels That Would Include Troops And Drone Strikes

According to NBC News, the Trump administration is considering going through with the plan even if the Mexican government objects

The Trump administration has begun developing detailed plans to send US troops and intelligence officers into Mexico to target cartels in operations that would include drone strikes, NBC News reported on Monday , citing current and former US officials.

The report said that US military personnel have already begun training for the potential mission, though a deployment is not imminent. Many of the troops would come from Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) and would operate under the authority of US intelligence agencies, with involvement from CIA officers.

Unlike the current US bombing campaign against alleged drug boats in the waters of Latin America, which the Trump administration is conducting without legal authority, the idea of the campaign in Mexico would be to keep it secret and not publicize attacks.

The NBC report said the administration wanted to operate in coordination with the Mexican government but was also considering conducting the campaign without Mexico’s approval, which would mark a significant violation of the country’s sovereignty. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has increased law enforcement cooperation with the US and has allowed the CIA to ramp up surveillance flights along the border, but she has repeatedly ruled out US military intervention in her country.

“The United States is not going to come to Mexico with the military,” Sheinbaum said in August . “We cooperate, we collaborate, but there is not going to be an invasion. That is ruled out, absolutely ruled out.”
