Turkiye To Reopen Syria–jordan Land Corridor, Revive Trade Route To Gulf

Turkish officials also confirmed plans with Jordan to reactivate the Ottoman-era Hejaz railway linking Anatolia to the Red Sea via Aqaba

Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat announced on 30 October that the long-planned Turkiye–Syria transit corridor will become fully operational next year, allowing Turkish trucks to reach Jordan and Gulf states by road once remaining customs, visa, and infrastructure issues in Syria are resolved.

Bolat said the corridor, based on a deal signed in June between the transport ministers of Turkiye and Syria, had generated “excitement in Jordan.” He described it as “key in trade and transportation,” linking Turkiye and Europe to the Arab markets through Syrian and Jordanian territory.

“As soon as we revitalize these areas with roads and railways, trade and prosperity will rapidly increase,” Bolat noted, emphasizing that improved connectivity will strengthen regional commerce and integration.

Bolat announced that the first round of meetings for the Turkiye–Jordan Joint Economic Commission had concluded with the signing of a memorandum covering cooperation in trade, industry, agriculture, services, tourism, and culture.

“The agreement we signed today puts a roadmap on paper for the future agreements, activities, and programs we will carry out,” he said.

Local voices quoted by the Times of Israel say the militias lack broad public backing and governing capacity, while Hamas, rejecting disarmament, seeks to reassert influence and even shape the technocratic slate from behind the scenes. Moscow Restarts Military Flights To Syrian Air Base Amid Efforts To Strengthen Damascus Alliance

Russia and Syria have unexpectedly maintained ties following the US and Israeli-backed regime change in Damascus last year

Russia has resumed military flights to the Hmeimim Air Base in Syria after a hiatus of nearly six months, as the two countries move to establish closer relations, Bloomberg reported on 30 October.

Citing the flight-tracking website Flightradar24, the newspaper said that at least two Russian aircraft flew to the Russian air base in Latakia Governorate, on the Syrian coast.

A Russian Air Force Ilyushin Il-62M transport plane flew from Libya to Latakia, then to the Moscow region on 26 October. Antonov An-124-100 Ruslan heavy cargo planes have arrived at the airport on three occasions since 24 October.

Bloomberg also cited an anonymous source close to the Kremlin as saying that Russia is resuming flights to Hmeimim, which Moscow relies on as a logistics hub to project power in West Asia and Africa.

Russia also maintains a naval base at the port of Tartous, its only foothold in the Mediterranean.

The Turkiye–Syria transit corridor will enable Turkish trucks to travel by road to Jordan and the Gulf countries once it becomes fully operational next year, following the resolution of issues such as visa procedures and road rehabilitation in Syria, Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat told Anadolu Agency.

Bolat explained that Turkish trucks have been able to pass through Syria to reach Jordan and the Gulf since the signing of an agreement in June, but matters related to customs regulations, road repairs, and visa rules within Syria are still being addressed.

He added that the agreement between the Turkish and Syrian transport ministers sparked enthusiasm in Jordan. “As this road extends from Turkiye to Europe via Jordan and Syria, it is key in trade and transportation,” he said.

Leaked Israeli government documents obtained by The Guardian, +972 Magazine, and Local Call reveal that Google and Amazon secretly agreed to use a coded “winking mechanism” to alert Tel Aviv whenever they were compelled to share Israeli data with foreign authorities under a $1.2bn cloud-computing deal known as Project Nimbus.

The mechanism required the companies to send small “special compensation” payments—matching the foreign country’s dialing code—within 24 hours of any disclosure, sidestepping legal gag orders. Legal experts called it a “clever but risky” attempt to skirt international law, warning it could breach US confidentiality rules.

Under the 2021 deal, both firms also accepted extraordinary terms barring them from restricting Israel’s use of their cloud services, even if tied to human rights abuses. The arrangement guarantees Tel Aviv uninterrupted access to military, intelligence, and surveillance systems hosted on their platforms.

The revelations follow Microsoft’s move last month to cut Israeli military access to its cloud after discovering it stored intercepted Palestinian calls.

The Nimbus contract forbids Google and Amazon from taking similar action, binding them to maintain full service or face penalties.

Both companies denied evading legal orders, while Israel’s finance ministry said the agreement protects “vital national interests.”

A joint investigation by The Guardian and +972 Magazine has revealed that Google and Amazon have “submitted to highly unorthodox controls” imposed by Israel on a 2021 agreement reached between Tel Aviv and the two tech companies.

The $1.2-billion deal – known as Project Nimbus – provides Israel with advanced AI and cloud computing services.

Tennessee Man Jailed Over Facebook Meme Has Charges Dropped After Outcry

A Facebook meme turned into a felony case.

A retired police officer from rural Tennessee spent more than a month behind bars over a Facebook post that authorities said hinted at school violence, a charge now thrown out, but one that has raised new concerns about criminalizing speech online.

Larry Bushart, 61, a longtime resident of Perry County and a familiar face in local Facebook debates, was arrested in late September after sharing a meme that officials said some interpreted as a threat.

The post appeared in a community group following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

The meme that landed Bushart in trouble was not new. It featured an image of President Donald Trump and the words “We have to get over it,” referencing his comment after a school shooting in Perry, Iowa, last year.

Beneath the image, and lacking the context, a caption read, “Donald Trump, on the Perry High School mass shooting, one day after.”

Bushart had added only a brief remark: “This seems relevant today…”

According to Perry County Sheriff Nick Weems, some residents saw the post and believed it referred to their own Perry County High School.

Channel 5 News pressed Sheriff Nick Weems on the origins of the meme that led to Bushart’s arrest.

The image, which referenced a school shooting in Perry, Iowa, had circulated widely online before Bushart shared it.

“It says ‘Perry High School mass shooting one day after,’ ok? That led people to believe in our county that he’s talking about Perry County High School – because it doesn’t say ‘Iowa’ either,” Weems explained.

When reporters pointed out that the meme was already known to be an existing post from the internet, Weems acknowledged, “Correct.”

“So it’s clear that he’s not talking about Perry County High School,” the reporter pressed.

“We knew,” the sheriff admitted. “The public did not know.”

Weems said calls poured into his office, and when Bushart declined to delete the meme, he was charged with recklessly threatening mass violence, a felony that carried the potential for years in prison.

Body camera footage captured the moment Bushart was taken into custody. “I’ve been in Facebook jail,” he told an officer with disbelief. “But I’m really in it now.”

His bail was set at an extraordinary $2 million. For over four weeks, he remained locked up as local officials insisted that the post crossed a legal line.

Netanyahu Says The Israeli Military Will ‘Demilitarize’ Gaza If Foreign Troops Don’t

The US is reportedly working on a plan for an international force for Gaza

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday that the Israeli military would disarm Hamas and “demilitarize” Gaza if foreign troops don’t.

Netanyahu told the graduating class of Israeli military cadets that Israel has “more work” to do in Gaza. “At the end of the day, Hamas will be disarmed and Gaza will be demilitarized,” he said. “If foreign troops do it, great. If they don’t do it, we will.”

Netanyahu and other Israeli officials have made clear that they’re eager to restart Israel’s full-blown genocidal military campaign in the Gaza Strip, and Israel has repeatedly violated the ceasefire deal by launching attacks in Gaza, which have killed over 200 Palestinians since the truce began.

The Israeli leader’s comments come as the US is involved in negotiations for an international force to enter Gaza. The idea is for foreign troops to take the place of IDF soldiers inside Gaza.

Israel has strongly objected to the idea of a Turkish presence in Gaza, but according to a report from Axios , the US is pushing for Turkey to be involved. The report said Azerbaijan, Egypt, and Indonesia have shown a willingness to send troops, but there are concerns about the possibility of clashing with Hamas. The US plan also involves establishing a Palestinian police force trained and vetted by the US, Egypt, and Jordan.

Majority Of Palestinians Oppose Hamas Disarmament, Say Trump's 'Peace Plan' Unlikely To End War: Poll

The poll notes that the last two years have 'led to greater support' for Hamas, particularly in the occupied West Bank

A majority of Palestinians oppose the disarmament of Hamas and are skeptical of US President Donald Trump’s “peace plan” for Gaza, according to a new poll conducted by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (PCPSR).

The PCPSR poll was carried out between 22 and 25 October.

It reveals that around 70 percent of Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Gaza oppose the surrender of Hamas’s weapons, even if that means a renewal of Israeli attacks.

Opposition to disarmament is strongest in the occupied West Bank. Eighty percent of Palestinian respondents in the occupied territory believe the Hamas's military wing, the Qassam Brigades, should remain armed.

In Gaza, 55 percent said they opposed disarmament.

Xi Agrees To Delay Rare Minerals Restrictions As Trump Backs Down On China Tariffs Following Summit

President Trump agreed to reduce tariffs on Chinese goods by 10 percent following his meeting with Xi in South Korea

Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed on 29 October to delay restrictions on rare earth metal exports to the US in exchange for a reduction in tariffs during his meeting with US President Donald Trump in South Korea.

After the meeting, President Xi said Washington and Beijing would work to finalize their agreements to provide “peace of mind” to both countries and the rest of the world.

“Both sides should take the long-term perspective into account, focusing on the benefits of cooperation rather than falling into a vicious cycle of mutual retaliation,” he said.
