Speaking at a Monday night dinner hosted by the US Israel Public Affairs Committee in Taiwan, Lai said the Jewish people have endured centuries of persecution.
"The Taiwanese people often look to the example of the Jewish people when facing challenges to our international standing and threats to our sovereignty from China. The people of Taiwan have never become discouraged," he said, according to his office.
"Israel's determination and capacity to defend its territory provides a valuable model for Taiwan. I have always believed that Taiwan needs to channel the spirit of David against Goliath in standing up to authoritarian coercion."

A federal judge in Manhattan has ordered the unsealing of more than 100 documents from a civil lawsuit brought by the U.S. Virgin Islands against JPMorgan Chase over the finances of disgraced pedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.
U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff, a Bill Clinton appointee in the Southern District of New York, broadly granted a request from The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal to release sealed exhibits from the summary judgment phase of the case, which was settled in 2023.
Some of the filings purportedly contain “financial settlements from JPMorgan Chase, either for accounts controlled by Epstein or the accounts of victims of Epstein’s crimes,” according to Times journalist Matthew Goldstein, who sought a broad unsealing of “financial documents” from the case.
“I believe that records documenting the flow of money into Epstein’s accounts from persons who may have been involved in his sexual abuse of minors and the flow of money to victims are of particular public interest at this time in light of allegations that the federal government has not been forthcoming in providing records from the Epstein investigation, despite promises to do so,” Goldstein wrote in a letter to the judge from August.

The war chief’s comments came after Israel’s assassination of three resistance fighters near the city of Jenin
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz ordered the military to “take all necessary measures” against “terrorists” in the occupied West Bank, hours after Tel Aviv assassinated three resistance members near the city of Jenin.
Katz comments and assassinations follow a surge in West Bank resistance activity in response to the continued escalation of Israeli army and settler violence.
The defense minister said Israeli forces “thwarted a serious threat” during an operation carried out early on 28 October in the occupied West Bank.
“Israeli forces will remain present in the Jenin, Tulkarem, and Nour Shams refugee camps to prevent attacks,” Katz said, adding that he “instructed the army to take all necessary measures to eliminate terrorist threats in the West Bank.”
The Israeli military said earlier on Tuesday that it assassinated three “terrorists” from the Jenin refugee camp, in a joint operation with the Shin Bet security service and the Yamam border police unit.
