New Investigation Identifies Over 20 Israeli Soldiers Behind Hind Rajab's Killing

Several soldiers involved in the deliberate killing of the Rajab family belong to an army unit calling itself the ‘Vampire Empire’

A new Al Jazeera documentary released on 20 October has identified the Israeli soldiers and officers who were directly involved in the killing of six-year-old Palestinian girl Hind Rajab and her family last year, as well as the rescue workers who were dispatched to the scene.

The investigation reveals the involvement of the Israeli army’s 401st Brigade. This includes Lt. Col. Daniel Ela and field officer Maj. Shon Glass.

According to the report, Glass was the one who ordered Israeli troops to fire the tank shells that killed the Rajab family in Gaza City’s Tal al-Hawa. He also ordered the attack on the ambulance teams sent to the rescue.

The soldiers belong to a unit calling itself the “Vampire Empire.”

Evidence analyzed by Forensic Architecture, as well as satellite imagery, found that their tank was within around 400 meters of the car carrying Hind and her family. The evidence also ruled out any crossfire.

Egyptian Intel Chief Meets Netanyahu As Concerns Grow Over Ceasefire Violations

Israel has killed dozens of Palestinians in recent days, while obstructing the entry of aid into Gaza in violation of the ceasefire deal

Egypt’s intelligence chief Hassan Mahmoud Rashid made a trip to Israel on 21 October and met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the ceasefire process in Gaza.

The two discussed “advancing [US] President [Donald] Trump’s plan, Israel–Egypt relations and strengthening the peace between the countries, as well as other regional issues,” according to an Israeli readout of the meeting.

Egypt’s Al-Qahera News reported that Rashid discussed the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza with Netanyahu and his team.

He is reportedly set to meet US envoy Steve Witkoff, who is currently visiting Israel as well.

US Vice President JD Vance also arrived in Israel on Tuesday. According to his office, Vance met Witkoff and former Trump advisor Jared Kushner. He is due to meet Netanyahu and Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Wednesday.

US Bombs Somalia For 83rd Time This Year

According to US Africa Command, the strike targeted the ISIS affiliate in Somalia's northeastern Puntland region

US Africa Command said in a press release on Wednesday that its forces carried out an airstrike in Somalia’s northeastern Puntland region on October 20, marking at least the 83rd time the US has bombed Somalia this year.

AFRICOM offered no details about the strike besides saying that it targeted the ISIS affiliate in the area and was launched in a remote mountain region about 52 miles southeast of the Gulf of Aden port city of Bossaso. “Specific details about units and assets will not be released to ensure continued operations security,” the command said.

Since April, AFRICOM has stopped sharing information about casualties and assessments of potential civilian harm in its airstrikes. The US-backed Puntland forces did not release a statement on any fighting that may have occurred the day of the latest strike, but did claim progress in the fight against ISIS militants in comments to Garowe Online a day later.

“In today’s operation, the forces removed fleeing Daesh terrorists from the Habar-Bakuuje area near Il-Abal. Several terrorist members were killed in the fighting, and the clearing operation against the fleeing militants is progressing well,” said a statement from the Puntland Counter-Terrorism Command.

The US has supported local forces in Puntland since the US-backed government based in Mogadishu doesn’t control the area. This year, the US has also been launching airstrikes in southern and central Somalia to support the government in its war against al-Shabaab.

❗️How psychological trauma is forcing Gaza’s children into silence

According to a report by Middle East Monitor, thousands of children in Gaza are no longer speaking, and it is not because their voices are physically gone, but because the deep psychological scars that have appeared after two years of genocide have stolen their words.

According to a report by the Gaza  Community  Mental Health  Program (GCMHP), medical professionals are witnessing a worrying rise in what they call traumatic mutism: children who can speak but refuse to, their language trapped in shock, fear, and grief. Symptoms include chronic nightmares, hypersensitivity to loud noises, bed‑wetting, and a pervasive silence despite no physical vocal injury. Even older children are losing the ability to form words.

Efforts to provide therapy are being disrupted by power cuts, communication blackouts, and continued bombardments. Prior to the latest escalation, more than half the children in Gaza already showed signs of post‑traumatic stress. Now, mental health specialists warn of a “linguistic and emotional collapse” threatening to silence an entire generation.
