Google And Apple To Enforce Age Verification In Texas Starting In 2026
Apple and Google brace for a privacy tradeoff as Texas turns app downloads into identity checkpoints.
Tech giants Apple and Google have confirmed they will comply with Texas’s newly passed age verification law, but both companies warn that doing so will come at the cost of user privacy.
The legislation, known as SB2420, is scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2026.
Under this law, app marketplaces and developers will be required to implement strict age assurance mechanisms that, according to Apple, will force the collection of personal data even for basic app downloads.
“Beginning January 1, 2026, a new state law in Texas—SB2420—introduces age assurance requirements for app marketplaces and developers,” Apple stated in a developer update.
“While we share the goal of strengthening kids’ online safety, we are concerned that SB2420 impacts the privacy of users by requiring the collection of sensitive, personally identifiable information to download any app, even if a user simply wants to check the weather or sports scores.”

Tech giants Apple and Google have confirmed they will comply with Texas’s newly passed age verification law, but both companies warn that doing so will come at the cost of user privacy.
The legislation, known as SB2420, is scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2026.
Under this law, app marketplaces and developers will be required to implement strict age assurance mechanisms that, according to Apple, will force the collection of personal data even for basic app downloads.
“Beginning January 1, 2026, a new state law in Texas—SB2420—introduces age assurance requirements for app marketplaces and developers,” Apple stated in a developer update.

'We Will Fight To The End': China Hits Back At Washington As Trade War Reignites
China has expanded its restrictions on the export of rare earth minerals that are essential to the US military industry
China said on 14 October that it has imposed sanctions on US subsidiaries of a South Korean shipbuilding firm, coinciding with a recent surge of tension between Washington and Beijing.
The Chinese government also vowed to fight the trade war with the US “to the end.”
Five US subsidiaries of South Korea’s Hanwha Ocean Group were targeted by Chinese sanctions.
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce said in a statement that the sanctions include a ban on any dealings or cooperation inside China with the five subsidiaries – Hanwha Shipyard LLC, Hanwha Philly Shipyard, Hanwha Ocean USA International LLC, Hanwha Shipping Holding LLC, and USA Holding Corp.
The ministry held these companies responsible for “contributing to and supporting” a US probe into the Chinese shipbuilding sector, adding that these practices “undermine China's sovereignty, security, and development.”
