In coordination with other Palestinian resistance factions, Hamas agreed to part of the US president's ceasefire plan to 'stop the war and massacres'

Israel continued its relentless bombing of Gaza throughout 4 October, despite US President Donald Trump's order the previous day to "immediately" stop its assault on the enclave to allow for the release of Israeli captives held by Hamas.

Israel carried out dozens of air strikes and artillery shelling on Gaza City and other areas in the strip on Saturday.

Medical sources said Israeli bombing killed at least four people in a strike on a home in the Tuffah neighborhood of Gaza City, while two children were killed and eight people wounded in a drone strike on a tent in a camp for displaced people in Khan Yunis.

“The situation is very serious in Gaza City,” stated Gaza Civil Defense Spokesman Mahmud Bassal, adding that his teams were not able to reach all the casualties due to the “presence of tanks and the ongoing bombardment.”

At least 20 Palestinians have been killed since dawn on Saturday.

Syria's self-proclaimed president has established a shadow religious state to maintain power in Syria indefinitely

Many Syrians are unaware that the first parliamentary elections since the fall of the government of Bashar al-Assad are about to take place, AP reported on 4 October, in part because the Syrian public will not be allowed to cast votes.

“There were no candidate posters on the main streets and squares, no rallies, or public debates. In the days leading up to the polling, some residents of the Syrian capital had no idea a vote was hours away,” AP reported on Saturday.

“I didn’t know — now by chance I found out that there are elections of the People’s Assembly,” said Elias al-Qudsi, a shopkeeper in the famed markets of old Damascus.

“But I don’t know if we are supposed to vote or who is voting,” he added.

The US, Israel, and allied powers succeeded in December 2024 in toppling Syrian President Bashar al-Assad after a decade of war under the pretext of replacing his authoritarian rule with a “democratic system.”

Syrian Delegation In Moscow To Deepen Defense Cooperation

Syria's president is preparing to visit Moscow later this month for the first Russian–Arab summit

A delegation of top officials from the Syrian Ministry of Defense arrived in Moscow on 2 October for security talks with their Russian counterparts, state media SANA reported.

The Syrian delegation, headed by Chief of the General Staff Major General Ali al-Naasan, was received by Russian Deputy Defense Minister Yunus-bek Yevkurov in the Russian capital.

“This visit is part of efforts to strengthen coordination between the two countries’ Defense Ministries,” SANA stated.

The talks will help prepare the way for self-appointed Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa’s visit to Moscow later this month for the first Russian–Arab summit.

Sharaa, the former leader of the Al-Qaeda-affiliated Nusra Front, previously fought against the government of former Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, which received strong backing from Russia during the 14-year war that began in 2011.
