Hamas Seeking 'International Guarantees' For Gaza Ceasefire Amid Trump Threats: Report

Israel's Defense Minister said it is the 'last opportunity' for Palestinians to flee Gaza City as the army's ethnic cleansing campaign intensifies

Hamas is examining the ceasefire plan proposed by US President Donald Trump and wishes to amend several points in it, AFP reported on 1 October, citing a Palestinian source close to the resistance movement.

Trump's 20-point plan calls for a ceasefire, the release of Israelis held captive within 72 hours in exchange for Palestinian prisoners and detainees, Hamas's disarmament, the deportation of the movement's leaders, and a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.

A Palestinian source close to the Hamas leadership stated that "no final decision" had been made and that "the movement will likely need two to three days," AFP wrote.

"Hamas wants to amend some of the items, such as the disarmament clause and the expulsion of Hamas," the source said.

Hamas is also asking for "international guarantees" for a complete Israeli withdrawal from the strip and guarantees that Israel would not violate a ceasefire.

"The statements of the terrorist war minister Katz, in which he declared that anyone remaining inside Gaza City will be classified either as a fighter or a “supporter of terrorism,” represent a blatant embodiment of arrogance and contempt for the international community and for the principles of international and humanitarian law. They are a prelude to escalating the war crimes his army is committing against hundreds of thousands of innocent residents of the city—women, children, and the elderly.

What the leaders of the fascist occupation—war criminals—are perpetrating against our people in the Gaza Strip, especially in Gaza City, constitutes a crime of ethnic cleansing and systematic forced displacement, carried out with brutality before the eyes and ears of the entire world.

The brutal Zionist military campaign against Gaza City continues through the bombing of homes over their inhabitants and the committing of massacres. The most prominent today are the massacre of the Abu Kamil family in al-Daraj neighborhood, the massacre at al-Falah school in al-Zaytoun neighborhood, the targeting of the civil defense team there, and the targeting of a water truck that led to the martyrdom of a number of citizens. This is in addition to ongoing heavy bombardment across different areas of the Strip and successive massacres in central and southern regions.

❗️Palestinian factions say US Gaza plan given to Arab leaders differs from their version

Palestinian sources told Maan News that the US's 20-point-plan for Gaza presented to Arab leaders differs from the one the Palestinian factions received.

The factions demanded clear guarantees that Israel would commit to stopping the war, and said they need specific timelines for its withdrawal.

The Wall Street Journal quoted Arab mediators as saying that Hamas indicated it was open to accepting the US plan for Gaza, but asked for more time to review its terms.

Hamas informed mediators of its reservations over certain articles in the 20-point plan, including the clause calling for its disarmament and destruction. Hamas also said that releasing all 48 Israeli captives within 72 hours, as stipulated in Trump’s plan, would be difficult.

The Wall Street Journal also says that Egypt, Qatar, and Turkiye made it clear to Hamas that if it rejected Trump’s plan, it would not receive their diplomatic support.
