No Mercy For Suwayda’s Children: The Execution Of Ghina By Syrian Forces

The killing of a 14-year-old Druze girl, her relatives, and hundreds of civilians in Suwayda reveals the genocidal intent behind Syria’s latest ‘security’ campaign in the south.

As hundreds of Druze civilians were being massacred in Suwayda in July, a portrait of one of the youngest victims began to circulate widely online: a girl with flowing dark hair and a violin in her hands.

Her name was Ghina Mazen Helal. She was 14 years old.

The Cradle spoke with Ghina’s relatives and friends to investigate the circumstances of her death. Their accounts point to a chilling conclusion: Ghina was deliberately shot by a sniper from Syria’s General Security forces as she tried to escape the besieged city with other women and children. Her uncle and cousin were also killed during the same events.

Contrary to claims by Syrian President and former Al-Qaeda commander, Ahmad al-Sharaa (Abu Mohammad al-Julani), that security forces were deployed to protect civilians, these testimonies and video evidence suggest the opposite: that Sharaa's forces carried out a calculated campaign of mass killing against the Druze population of Suwayda.

US Troops In Southern Somalia Come Under ‘Indirect Fire’

Al-Shabaab took credit for the attack and claimed it inflicted casualties on US troops, which US Africa Command denied

US troops and allied forces in Kismayo, southern Somalia, came under “indirect fire” on September 4, US Africa Command said in a press release.

The press release came after al-Shabaab said it attacked Kismayo’s airport, where US personnel are based, according to Somali media . Al-Shabaab claimed that it killed and wounded American troops, but AFRICOM denied that there were any casualties.

“There were no US or partner force injuries or casualties as a result of the attack, and no damage to the base or coalition property has been reported,” AFRICOM said. “Al-Shabaab routinely disseminates false and exaggerated claims regarding attacks to undermine public trust. These claims should be treated with skepticism.”

The US military is known to coordinate airstrikes against al-Shabaab from the base in Kismayo, which is located in Jubaland, Somalia’s southernmost region, which has a significant al-Shabaab presence. In June of this year, the US Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa said US Army engineers were enhancing security at the US base in Kismayo.

While the US and al-Shabaab have been at war for nearly two decades, al-Shabaab cited US support for Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza as the reason for the attack. Back in 2020, al-Shabaab attacked a US base across the border in Kenya, killing one US soldier and two American contractors.

A federal court in Yucatán has ordered a halt to the collection of biometric data tied to Mexico’s planned national identity system, effectively pausing the initiative’s enforcement in the state.

The temporary suspension stops authorities from gathering fingerprints, facial images, and iris scans for the updated version of the CURP , the personal population registration code used nationwide.

‼️ US suspends visas for ALL Palestinian passport holders

The Trump administration has imposed a sweeping suspension on nearly all nonimmigrant visas for Palestinian passport holders, US officials told the New York Times.

This marks an escalation of earlier restrictions and was issued in an 18 August State Department cable to all US embassies and consulates.

The suspension covers visas for medical treatment, education, business, and family visits, though applicants with dual nationality can still apply under a different passport. It remains unclear how long the measure will be in force.

According to CNN, the internal cable acknowledged the Palestinian Authority (PA) as a competent passport-issuing body but underscored that “the United States does NOT recognize the PA as a ‘foreign government.’” Under the directive, embassies and consulates were instructed to deny visas to “all otherwise eligible Palestinian Authority passport holders,” including those applying for diplomatic or official travel.

The policy invokes section 221-G of the 1952 Immigration and Nationality Act, requiring officials to withhold visas pending further review.

Last week, Washington begun revoking and denying visas for Palestinian officials ahead of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) this month.

Earlier in August, the US also stopped issuing visitor visas to Palestinians from Gaza, including those seeking humanitarian or medical treatment.

Israel’s extremist National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir on Monday announced a major expansion of his controversial gun licensing scheme, making another 100,000 illegal Israeli settlers eligible for private firearm permits.

Ben Gvir’s office said five additional towns, Kiryat Gat, Kiryat Malakhi, Gan Yavne, Megiddo, and Tel Mond, were added to the list of communities where residents can apply for firearm licenses.

The policy, introduced after the start of Israel's genocidal war on Gaza in late 2023, has already resulted in well over 230,000 new licenses being issued.

The move will embolden settlers, who have long used weapons to attack Palestinian communities and seize land in the occupied West Bank, to escalate against Palestinians.
