Khamenei Advisor Says No Nuclear Talks If US Demands Iran Abandon Uranium Enrichment | Jul 14, 2025

A senior advisor to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Monday that the US must respect Iran’s “red lines” if it wants to resume nuclear negotiations and not demand that Tehran abandon uranium enrichment.

“They say Iran must abandon uranium enrichment, but this is one of our red lines. If talks are conditional on halting enrichment, they simply won’t happen,” Ali Velayati said during a meeting with Pakistan’s interior minister in Tehran, according to Iran’s IRNA news agency.

President Trump has been threatening to bomb Iran again if it resumes its uranium enrichment program, something Tehran says it has a right to as a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) since it has pledged not to develop nuclear weapons. It remains unclear how long it would take Tehran to restart enrichment following the US and Israeli attacks on its nuclear program.

Also on Monday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry denied reports that said a meeting was scheduled between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff. “As of now, no date, time, or location has been determined for such a meeting,” said Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei.

Iranian officials have said that they need guarantees that the US or Israel won’t attack during the next round of talks, since previous negotiations were used as cover to launch a surprise war.

Iran FM Araghchi hits back at Netanyahu: 'What exactly is Netanyahu smoking? And if nothing, what exactly does the Mossad have on the White House?'

In an interview on Fox News aired late Saturday, Israeli PM Netanyahu said he would support an "exceptional deal" with Iran: 1) No nuclear enrichment, 2) No ballistic missiles with a range of more than 300 miles (480 km), and 3) No "terror axis."

Araghchi's response was as follows:

"Netanyahu pledged victory in Gaza almost two years ago. The end result: military quagmire, facing arrest warrant for war crimes, and 200,000 new Hamas recruits.

In Iran, he dreamed that he could erase 40+ years of peaceful nuclear achievements. The end result: every one of the dozen Iranian academics that his mercenaries martyred had trained 100+ capable disciples. They will show Netanyahu what they are capable of.

But his arrogance doesn't stop there. Having miserably failed to achieve any of his war aims in Iran and compelled to run to "Daddy" when our powerful missiles flattened secret Israeli regime sites-which Netanyahu is still censoring-he is openly dictating what the US should or shouldn't say or do in talks with Iran.

DOJ Backs Antitrust Case Over Media–Big Tech Alliance

The DOJ treats coordinated viewpoint suppression as a market distortion that undermines democratic access to diverse information.

As we previously reported would be coming, the US Department of Justice has stepped into a major antitrust case that challenges a powerful alliance between corporate media outlets and Big Tech companies, which plaintiffs claim coordinated to suppress competing voices in the digital public square.

In a filing submitted July 11 to the US District Court for the District of Columbia, the DOJ issued a Statement of Interest asserting that antitrust law must apply when dominant actors work together to restrict the diversity of perspectives available to the public.

Central to the issue is the Trusted News Initiative (TNI), a collaborative project involving Reuters, BBC, The Associated Press, and The Washington Post, which plaintiffs allege worked with platforms like Meta, Google, and Microsoft to stifle independent media organizations.

The DOJ rejected arguments that such viewpoint suppression is beyond the reach of antitrust enforcement.

“The United States therefore files this statement to urge the Court to reject Defendants’ suggestion that the antitrust laws play no part in protecting viewpoint competition in news markets,” the department wrote.

“Controlling precedent shows that the Sherman Act protects all forms of competition, including competition in information quality.”

Trump later denied that he was considering sending long-range weapons to Ukraine and said that Ukraine shouldn't target Moscow

President Trump has encouraged Ukraine to step up strikes deep inside Russia and even asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky if his forces were capable of striking Moscow if the US provided longer-range weapons, the Financial Times reported on Tuesday.

Sources told the FT that the conversation occurred during a July 4 phone call. “Volodymyr, can you hit Moscow? . . . Can you hit St Petersburg too?” Trump asked. Zelensky replied that his forces could “absolutely” strike the Russian cities if the US provided the necessary weapons.

The report said that Trump signaled backing for the idea of providing long-range weapons in order to “make them [Russians] feel the pain” to pressure Moscow at the negotiating table. In comments to reporters, Trump later denied that he was considering providing Ukraine with long-range weapons and said that Zelensky “shouldn’t target Moscow.”

The White House confirmed that the conversation about striking Moscow took place, but insisted Trump wasn’t encouraging Ukrainian attacks inside Russia. A White House official told the BBC that Trump was “merely asking a question, not encouraging further killing. He’s working tirelessly to stop the killing and end this war.”

US Offers To Lease Zangezur Corridor For 100 Years To 'resolve' Armenian–azeri Tensions

Azerbaijan insists on controlling the 32-kilometer road inside Armenian territory as part of a peace deal

The US has proposed assuming control over the contentious Zangezur Corridor – a planned 32-kilometer transportation route connecting Azerbaijan's mainland to its Nakhchivan exclave through Armenia's southern Syunik province – in an effort to advance stalled peace talks between Yerevan and Baku.

Speaking at a press briefing in New York, Tom Barrack, the US envoy to Turkiye, said the issue of the corridor has become a major obstacle to lasting peace in the South Caucasus. “They are arguing over 32 kilometers of road, but this is no trivial matter. It has dragged on for a decade,” Barrack remarked.

To break the impasse, the US has offered to manage the corridor via a private US commercial operator that allegedly would serve as a neutral guarantor, ensuring fair and secure access to both nations.

“So what happens is that America steps in and says: ‘Okay, we'll take it over. Give us the 32 kilometers of road on a hundred-year lease, and you can all share it,’” Barrack went on to say.

According to a regional source cited by Middle East Eye (MEE), the idea of a private company overseeing the corridor was first floated by Turkiye. Turkish officials see Armenia as a crucial part of the so-called Middle Corridor – a trade route connecting Turkiye with Central Asia.

Kamal Adwan Hospital Chief ‘Starved, Tortured, Isolated’ In Israeli Jail

Dr Hussam Abu Safia’s condition has worsened since he was abducted and jailed by Israel in December last year

The condition of Dr Hussam Abu Safia, the director of north Gaza’s Kamal Adwan Hospital who was abducted by Israeli forces at the end of last year, has continued to deteriorate, his lawyer said on 14 July.

Abu Safia’s lawyer, Ghaida Qassem, said on Monday that the hospital director has lost around 40 kilograms since his abduction and detention by Israel, dropping from around 100 kilograms to 60 kilograms.

Israeli authorities have prevented Abu Safia from access to desperately needed medication and treatment, particularly for his condition of irregular heartbeats.

“He remains dressed in winter clothing under extreme conditions of starvation, torture, and complete isolation,” Qassem’s statement went on to say.

Abu Safia was abducted by Israeli troops on 27 December 2024 and taken to the Sde Teiman detention center, where Palestinians have been killed, tortured, and sexually assaulted.
