With bunker-busting bombs needed to reach Iran’s fortified sites, Trump faces mounting pressure to either escalate or back down
A Bloomberg investigation and satellite analysis published on 20 June revealed the limited effectiveness of Israel’s bombardment of Iranian nuclear infrastructure, shedding light on the challenges facing any potential US strikes.
Satellite imagery taken after four consecutive days of Israeli air raids shows that key Iranian nuclear facilities remain largely intact.
Images of the Natanz enrichment complex from 17 June reveal only superficial damage to external electrical systems – components experts say can be repaired within months.
“They did damage but left a lot intact,” said Robert Kelley, a former International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspector and ex-director of US satellite analysis labs, who reviewed the images for Bloomberg.
The findings highlight the operational difficulty in degrading Iran’s nuclear program without a major escalation.

The Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (MAPIM) has unveiled a global humanitarian campaign, ‘1000 Flotilla,’ aimed at breaking the blockade on Gaza and delivering aid directly.
MAPIM president Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid said the initiative marks a major international mobilization to confront Israel’s unlawful naval siege on Gaza.
"We will build not one, but a thousand ships. We will sail not once, but until Gaza is liberated," he added.

Atari 2600 Beats ChatGPT at Chess — No, Seriously
In an unexpected clash of tech generations, an engineer from Citrix pitted ChatGPT against a 1977 Atari 2600 console running Atari Chess. The result? The retro console won — and convincingly so.
For over 90 minutes, GPT-4o struggled against the 8-bit game’s simplest difficulty setting. It confused pieces, forgot past moves, and made blunders that would embarrass a novice. Even after switching from icon-based display to standard chess notation, its gameplay didn’t improve.
The funniest part? ChatGPT kept complaining that the piece icons were “too abstract” to interpret — a very human excuse for losing to a machine older than most of its users’ parents.
Despite Atari only looking 1–2 moves ahead, it managed to consistently outplay a state-of-the-art language model. A stark reminder: understanding language ≠ understanding logic or spatial reasoning.

Drinks including water, soda, beer and wine sold in glass bottles contain more microplastics than those in plastic bottles, according to a surprising study released by France's food safety agency Friday.
Researchers have detected the tiny, mostly invisible pieces of plastic throughout the world, from in the air we breathe to the food we eat, as well as riddled throughout human bodies.
There is still no direct evidence that this preponderance of plastic is harmful to human health, but a burgeoning field of research is aiming to measure its spread.
Guillaume Duflos, research director at French food safety agency ANSES, told AFP the team sought to "investigate the quantity of microplastics in different types of drinks sold in France and examine the impact different containers can have."
The researchers found an average of around 100 microplastic particles per liter in glass bottles of soft drinks, lemonade, iced tea and beer. That was five to 50 times higher than the rate detected in plastic bottles or metal cans.
"We expected the opposite result," Ph.D. student Iseline Chaib, who conducted the research, told AFP.
"We then noticed that in the glass, the particles emerging from the samples were the same shape, color and polymer composition—so therefore the same plastic—as the paint on the outside of the caps that seal the glass bottles," she said.
The paint on the caps also had "tiny scratches, invisible to the naked eye, probably due to friction between the caps when there were stored," the agency said in a statement.
This could then "release particles onto the surface of the caps," it added.
