Grossi Says IAEA Report 'Not Basis For War' After Threat Of Legal Action From Iran
An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said this week that the IAEA report on Iran helped pave the way for Israel’s war on the country
The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, said that the agency’s report accusing Iran of secret and illicit nuclear activity is not the reason behind Israel’s war against the country, after Tehran signaled it would take legal action against him.
“A report on the nuclear verification in Iran could hardly be a basis for any military action. Military action, from whomever it comes, is a political decision that has nothing to do with what we’re saying,” Grossi told CNN.
“In that report, I also said that, at this point, we do not have any indication that there is a systemic program in Iran to manufacture a nuclear weapon. It’s true that in the early 2000s, there had been some activities which were assessed at that time as related to nuclear weapon development … we are not seeing this now,” he added.
When asked about a potential “timeline” in which Iran could build a nuclear weapon, Grossi said discussing a timeline would be nothing but “pure speculation.”
On 19 June, the Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Mohammad Eslami sent a letter to Grossi condemning the “the criminal Zionist regime's repeated barbaric attacks” across Iran and on its nuclear facilities, adding that these attacks took place “despite repeated warnings to you regarding inaction, especially by the Board of Governors, which unfortunately operates under the guidance, influence, and support of three European countries, the US, and the Zionist regime.”

The Kremlin warned on 20 June that any attempt by the US or Israel to assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei would unleash dangerous consequences across West Asia and beyond, calling the push for regime change “unacceptable”.
“They will open the Pandora’s box,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Sky News, referring to threats from Tel Aviv and Washington that Khamenei could be a potential military target, and cautioning against deeper involvement in the ongoing war.
Peskov said Russia would react “very negatively” to the killing of Khamenei, stressing that such an act would not lead to collapse but rather fuel extremist sentiment inside Iran and entrench more hardline leadership. “Those who are speaking about this should keep it in mind,” he added.
“The situation is extremely tense and dangerous not only for the region, but for the whole world. The expansion of the participants in the conflict is potentially even more dangerous,” Peskov said. “It will only lead to another round of confrontation and escalation of tensions.”
The remarks followed a statement by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, who said on Thursday that Israel’s war aims included eliminating Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities, adding that “such a man [Khamenei] can no longer be allowed to exist.”

Trump Hesitates On Iran Strike As Satellite Images Expose Limits Of Israeli Attacks
With bunker-busting bombs needed to reach Iran’s fortified sites, Trump faces mounting pressure to either escalate or back down
A Bloomberg investigation and satellite analysis published on 20 June revealed the limited effectiveness of Israel’s bombardment of Iranian nuclear infrastructure, shedding light on the challenges facing any potential US strikes.
Satellite imagery taken after four consecutive days of Israeli air raids shows that key Iranian nuclear facilities remain largely intact.
Images of the Natanz enrichment complex from 17 June reveal only superficial damage to external electrical systems – components experts say can be repaired within months.
“They did damage but left a lot intact,” said Robert Kelley, a former International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspector and ex-director of US satellite analysis labs, who reviewed the images for Bloomberg.
The findings highlight the operational difficulty in degrading Iran’s nuclear program without a major escalation.

With bunker-busting bombs needed to reach Iran’s fortified sites, Trump faces mounting pressure to either escalate or back down
A Bloomberg investigation and satellite analysis published on 20 June revealed the limited effectiveness of Israel’s bombardment of Iranian nuclear infrastructure, shedding light on the challenges facing any potential US strikes.
Satellite imagery taken after four consecutive days of Israeli air raids shows that key Iranian nuclear facilities remain largely intact.
Images of the Natanz enrichment complex from 17 June reveal only superficial damage to external electrical systems – components experts say can be repaired within months.
“They did damage but left a lot intact,” said Robert Kelley, a former International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspector and ex-director of US satellite analysis labs, who reviewed the images for Bloomberg.
The findings highlight the operational difficulty in degrading Iran’s nuclear program without a major escalation.
