Ahmad al-Sharaa, the former Al-Qaeda commander, was invited by the Iraqi Prime Minister to visit the country next month for the Arab League Summit

Iraqi lawmakers are seeking to block Syria's de facto President, Ahmad al-Sharaa, from visiting Baghdad next month for the Arab League Summit, citing his past role as a commander in Al-Qaeda, which carried out hundreds of terror attacks against Iraqi civilians following the 2003 US invasion.

The Media Line published a leaked document on 20 April showing a request from Iraq’s Parliament to arrest Sharaa, previously known as “Abu Mohammad al-Jolani," on allegations of terrorism and document forgery should he enter Iraq for the summit.

The letter was issued by Iraq’s Council of Representatives and sent to the Office of the Public Prosecutor in Baghdad. It urges an investigation and potential arrest of al-Sharaa should he enter Iraqi territory.

An invitation to attend the 17 May summit was recently extended to the Syrian President by Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani.

“Yes, a formal invitation has been delivered to him, and he is welcome to attend and participate in the Arab Summit,” Sudani told The National’s Editor-in-Chief Mina al-Oraibi during a discussion at the Sulaymaniyah Forum on Wednesday.

Following the event, a picture leaked of an unannounced meeting between Sudani and Sharaa that took place in Qatar on Tuesday, sparking anger among Shia political factions and armed groups.

Over 50 Iraqi politicians also signed a request Saturday asking the Speaker of Parliament to issue a block on Sharaa entering the country “for the sake of the martyrs, their families, the wounded, the Iraqi people and the principles," The National reported on Sunday.

Iraqi MP Falih al-Khazali said in response to the invitation for Sharaa to visit Baghdad that “Iraq is the center of Arab dialogue; we will not allow Baghdad to become a safe haven for the terrorist Jolani. The blood of the martyrs has not dried yet.” ..

He calls China's export model "unsustainable", says they're trying to export their ways out of their economic troubles.
Exporting is a hell of a lot better of a strategy than printing their way out of economic troubles, than screwing over their younger generations with debt they can never pay off...

The Yuan isn't the global reserve currency, so China doesn't have the luxury of printing more money like the US does. They have to earn it by producing. By exporting. Calling the model "unsustainable" feels like a bit of projection, even if there is a point to be found in what he is saying (China does have its internal economic troubles, esp real estate market), it just comes across as cope and projection, in the context of why he is saying what he is saying and how he is saying it. China's problem's arnt because it is exporting.

US admin is quite literally just salty realizing they've got a zombie economy to lean on while utterly dependent on Chinese supply chains for all critical industries, as is the rest of the world. Even the production lines in the US are dependent on Chinese imported intermediate goods that get shipped here to be "made in the USA" (Assembled here). Even the parts that are created here largely rely on intermediate goods like Chinese steel and aluminum.

In a global trade war, China is going to have alot more power than the US.

4/21 — China Is In Economic Dire Straits And They're No Longer Able To Hide It

Official economic data from any government is always treated with suspicion by anyone with common sense.  The US, for example, witnessed some of the most egregious statistical tinkering imaginable under the Biden Administration, not to mention outright lies and propaganda from the establishment media on the health of the economy.  To this day no one has been fired (or tarred and feathered) for hiding the reality of the stagflation crisis.  Any government or corporate economist that called the threat "transitory" should be stripped of their financial prestige and banished to a cash register at Arby's.

And let's not forget Biden's misrepresentation of the labor market , portraying millions of new jobs for illegal migrants and visa holders as if they were jobs benefiting American citizens.  In the US and across the western world, lying about the economy is generally seen by politicians as a temporary solution to secure reelection.  However, in China, lying about the economy is treated as a national security imperative.  If there's anything in the world that gives communists a feeling of existential dread, it's the fear that their ideological enemies will discover proof that communism doesn't work.

The Trump Administration's tariffs on China are not the initiator of the nation's troubles, they are more a bookend to a process of decline that has been ongoing for years.

Overall tariffs on Chinese goods currently sit at 124%, but some goods will be taxed as high as 245%.  Trump has given a 1 month exemption on electronic parts and devices, perhaps to offer manufacturers like Apple, Nvidia and Microsoft time to arrange sourcing from alternative vendors.  The problem for Chinese manufacturers is not just the tariffs but the uncertainty of timing and sudden changes to policy.  They say no one is willing to make a big move on production or shipments until the trade landscape becomes more predictable.  This means most Chinese factories are frozen in stasis.

Trump's tariff actions are widely criticized by the media as erratic or poorly planned, but what they don't understand is that uncertainty is the real leverage, not the tariffs.  What seems like a spur of the moment decision or a sudden capitulation on Trump's part can be highly effective at throwing foreign governments and corporations off balance.  Globalism requires a perpetual status quo, change of any kind is like holy water to a vampire.

Chinese shipments are on standby and orders are frozen .  Nothing is moving.
