Israel Plans To Seize All Of Rafah For Gaza ‘Buffer Zone’: Report

The plan includes destroying what is left of the infrastructure and barring the return of displaced Palestinians

-Israel is planning to incorporate the Gaza Strip’s southernmost city of Rafah and its surrounding areas into the buffer zone it has created along the strip’s border, which will include the barring of residents from returning to their homes, according to a report by Haaretz.

“The area, which is 75 square kilometers in size, is located between the Philadelphi and Murag highways and includes the city of Rafah and its surrounding neighborhoods. Residents will not be allowed to return, and the demolition of all buildings in it is being considered,” the newspaper reported on 9 April.

The report notes that Israel has ordered the evacuation of the majority of the area, which is almost empty.

The move falls in line with recent statements by Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz, that Tel Aviv is moving to seize vast amounts of territory in Gaza as a form of pressure on Hamas.

“In some ways, it seems that there is an intention to replicate what was done in the north in the south of the strip,” the report adds. Israel has been building an extensive buffer zone along the borders of the enclave. In the months leading up to the ceasefire agreement, Israel wiped out much of northern Gaza’s infrastructure – including its health sector – in what was referred to as the Generals' Plan.

🇾🇪⚡- Gulf Research Center, a Saudi-based Think Tank, claims "80,000 soldiers are being mobilised" by the Saudi-backed Yemeni Presidential Council's 'Coalition Forces' (YPC). The YPC is currently based in Aden, sharing power with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC).
