Israel's prime minister is causing severe damage to public trust in government systems by attempting to remove key gatekeepers. He is no longer fit to carry out his duties and should be dismissed for incapacity
Recent events have intensified the sense among Israeli citizens that they are with their back to the wall, with no other protection other than a High Court of Justice ruling, dismissing Netanyahu on the grounds of incapacitation – as he is unable and unfit to carry out his duty.
The statement announcing the dismissal of the Shin Bet chief, in stark contradiction to the instructions of the attorney general, along with the scheduling of a debate on the dismissal of the attorney general herself on Sunday, represent the crossing of a red line.
Bar's dismissal and the dismissal of the attorney general are both marked by a deep conflict of interest. Bar's dismissal is being initiated as the Shin Bet conducts a highly sensitive investigation of Netanyahu's senior officials on suspicion of harming state security in the Qatargate affair.
His dismissal sends a signal to those investigating the affair that whoever carries out his or her duty according to the public interest rather than Netanyahu's personal interest will be dismissed or persecuted. It's a move that is intended to weaken the hands of those investigating the affair.
Netanyahu himself explained the dismissal with the claim that he has no trust in Bar. Bar explained that he is bound by law to be loyal to the public interest rather than to Netanyahu's personal interest.
There seems to be no disagreement about the prime minister's demand that Bar displays personal loyalty to him – a demand that is in itself illegal. The attorney general wrote as much to Netanyahu in her urgent letter...
The dismissal of Bar, following the dismissal of Defense Minister Yoav Galant and the pressure by Netanyahu that led to the resignation of Chief of Staff Herzl Halevi – all these undermine public confidence in the state's institutions of government.
A prime minister who works for the dismissal of all senior government officials in Israel and instigates a delegitimization and smear campaign against Supreme Court President Isaac Amit, causes grave harm to public confidence in the systems of government... The only way to put an end to this is to dismiss him for incapacity.
The old incapacity law is theoretically still in effect, as the High Court of Justice decided to postpone the new law, legislated for Netanyahu's personal benefit, from coming into effect until after the next election. There is, then, a law which allows the Supreme Court to rule that the attorney general must initiate incapacity proceedings...

Jeffrey Goldberg, a reporter for The Atlantic , was included in the Signal thread, apparently by accident , which is how he obtained the conversation.
An account believed to be Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth shared details of the March 15 airstrikes on Yemen two hours before they happened, and the White House confirmed that the Signal conversation appeared to be authentic.
A day before the airstrikes, an account labeled “JD Vance” expressed misgivings about the idea of targeting the Houthis. “Team, I am out for the day doing an economic event in Michigan. But I think we are making a mistake,” the Vance account said.
Vance framed his opposition to the airstrikes based on President Trump’s policies toward Europe, which have involved pressuring the Europeans to pay more for their own militaries to be less reliant on the US. Israel’s Security Cabinet approved a plan to separate and legalise 13 settlement outposts in the occupied West Bank, far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has said.
“We continue to lead a revolution of normalisation and regulation in the settlements. Instead of hiding and apologising – we raise the flag, build and settle.
This is another important step on the path to actual sovereignty in Judea and Samaria (West Bank),” Smotrich said on Sunda
