UN Condemns Israel's 'Significant Expansion' Of Illegal West Bank Settlements

Israel's settler movement sees the election of President Trump as an 'opportunity' to illegally annex occupied Palestinian territory

Israel has expanded and consolidated Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank as part of a campaign to illegally annex these territories into the State of Israel, the UN Human Rights Office stated in a new report issued on 18 March.

“Israel must immediately and completely cease all settlement activities and evacuate all settlers, stop the forcible transfer of the Palestinian population, and prevent and punish attacks by its security forces and settlers,” UN High Commissioner Volker Turk said in a statement on Tuesday.

“The transfer by Israel of parts of its own civilian population into the territory it occupies amounts to a war crime,” Turk added.

The report said that between 1 November 2023 and 31 October 2024, there had been a “significant” expansion of Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

It also cited reports from Israeli NGOs indicating that tens of thousands of new housing units are scheduled to be built in new or existing settlements.

Ben-Gvir Accuses Freed Hostage Eli Sharabi Of 'Echoing Hamas Propaganda' In Testimony

This statement came as released hostage Eli Sharabi stated that this decision led to Hamas retaliating by worsening the conditions hostages were held in.

Eli Sharabi was “echoing Hamas propaganda” when he spoke about his experiences in captivity during an interview with Channel 12’s Uvda last Thursday, former national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said Saturday night.

Sharabi had said Ben-Gvir’s decision to enforce stricter conditions for terrorists in Israeli prisons was what led to Hamas worsening the treatment of hostages in captivity.

“I am proud of my actions,” Ben-Gvir told Channel 13, adding that he would not apologize for the decision.

Last Monday, Ben-Gvir wrote on X/Twitter: “Channel 13 decided to legitimize the atrocities committed by Hamas against the hostages, with an announcement that, because of the change in the conditions of the terrorists in the prison led by me, Hamas abused our hostages.”

“They apparently forgot that the terrorists murdered, raped, and massacred Jews long before I implemented changes in the conditions of terrorists in prison,” he added. “They don’t need any excuse to do this, other than our very existence.”.. Ben-Gvir wrote.
