Israel Launches 'Biggest Ever Incursion' Into Syria's Quneitra

Israel has launched another 'incursion' into Syria's Quneitra province, the largest, capturing the village of Al-Adnaniyah.

An Israeli military force consisting of approximately 50 vehicles advanced on Tuesday evening into the village of Al-Adnaniyah in the countryside of Quneitra province, southern Syria, in a move described as the biggest incursion since the beginning of the Israeli occupation of the country's south.

A resident of the area reported that the invading party included armoured vehicles and reconnaissance units.

Saeed Al-Mohammad, a citizen and activist from Quneitra, told The New Arab's Arabic language sister outlet Al-Araby Al-Jadeed: "Israeli military vehicles have been sweeping through the fields in Al-Adnaniyah village for hours, and residents fear a repeat scenario of forced displacement."

"This incursion isn't random; Israel aims to displace residents by creating a hostile military environment, which is part of a systematic policy of demographic cleansing," he added.

Khaled Bakr, a resident of Quneitra, told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed: "The incursion is part of a broader Israeli plan aimed at shifting the balance of power in southern Syria by undermining any military presence near the border."

Smotrich Says Israel Has Been Planning Resumption Of Gaza Slaughter Since New IDF Chief Took Over

When the Gaza ceasefire deal was first reached, Smotrich said Netanyahu assured him that the genocidal war would resume after the first phase

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said on Tuesday that Israel had been planning to resume its genocidal war in Gaza since the Israeli military’s new chief of staff, Eyal Zamir, took the position on March 5.

“As we promised and explained, the IDF returned tonight to a powerful attack on Gaza with the goal of destroying Hamas, returning all the hostages, and removing the threat posed by the Gaza Strip to Israeli citizens, thereby restoring security to residents of Israel’s encirclement and all Israeli citizens over time,” Smotrich wrote on X.

“This is a gradual process that we have built and planned in recent weeks since the new Chief of Staff took office, and with God’s help, it will look completely different from what has been done so far,” he added.

When the Gaza ceasefire deal was first reached, Smotrich said he received assurances from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the full deal wouldn’t be implemented. He said Netanyahu vowed that Israel would restart military operations after the first phase of the ceasefire with the goal of taking over the entire Gaza Strip.

At the time, Netanyahu said that he received a guarantee from President Trump that Israel could restart military operations at the end of the first phase. The US has strongly backed Israel’s resumption of large-scale bombing in Gaza, which killed over 400 Palestinians on Tuesday morning, including scores of women and children.

A lie fueled the panic, but the laws it birthed are here to stay.

For a brief moment, Sydney teetered on the edge of full-blown panic. The headlines screamed of a terror plot — an explosives-laden caravan lurking in the city’s semi-rural outskirts, an arson attack on a childcare center near a synagogue. The Jewish community was shaken and, in response, Premier Chris Minns’ government did what governments do best: moved quickly, passed sweeping draconian hate crime laws, and basked in the glow of their own decisiveness.

Then March arrived and with it an inconvenient fact. The Australian Federal Police (AFP) and New South Wales Police admitted that the so-called terrorist conspiracy was, in reality, a “criminal con job.” No sleeper cell. No ticking time bomb of extremist violence. Just a group of enterprising criminals staging a threat for their own benefit. The explosives? Staged for maximum impact — but, crucially, without a detonator.

The entire operation wasn’t about mass destruction. It was a scam. The alleged mastermind, reportedly a figure nestled deep within Australia’s criminal underworld, was running a spectacular bluff. The plan? Create an artificial crisis, let the media and politicians whip themselves into a frenzy, and then swoop in as the “hero” with inside information — possibly to negotiate a reduced sentence, distract police from other crimes, or simply revel in the chaos.

It worked. At least until it didn’t.

Premier Minns and his team wasted no time in responding to what they believed was a national emergency, although they refuse to tell the public when they were informed the alleged terror attack was fake. Within days of the caravan discovery, they pushed through tough new hate speech laws, positioning themselves as the last line of defense against an escalating wave of antisemitic violence. It was the kind of move that makes for great press conferences — strong leadership, immediate action, and a clear villain to rally against.

Now, with the truth out, there’s the small matter of the government having been duped by common criminals. Not exactly the story they were hoping to tell.

A Criminal’s Dream, A Government’s Nightmare

The brilliance of the scheme, if one can call it that, was its understanding of modern governance. Politicians rarely wait for all the facts before acting, and the Minns government leaped at the chance to legislate against what it alleged was an escalating security crisis. In reality, they were responding to an elaborate ruse.

The New Overreaching Laws

On February 6, 2025, the Federal Parliament passed the Criminal Code Amendment (Hate Crimes) Bill 2025, a sweeping update to existing hate crime legislation. The message is clear: “Hate has no place here!” But read between the lines, and you’ll find a legal overhaul that expands government power, raises human rights concerns, and, conveniently, offers politicians a well-timed opportunity..

The laws at both federal and NSW levels aim to curb hate-fueled violence, particularly against Jewish Australians. They criminalize advocating force or violence against protected groups, toughen penalties for Nazi-related symbolism, and even impose mandatory minimum sentences for some offenses. But as always, the devil is in the details.

The new laws stretched the rules in ways that might make civil liberties advocates nervous. Previously, to be charged with urging violence against a group, prosecutors had to prove intent. Now? Recklessness will do. This means you don’t have to actually intend for violence to happen — just failing to consider the possibility could land you in serious trouble.

When politicians admit they fear free speech, it’s not about harmony — it’s about control.

Chris Minns, Premier of New South Wales, Australia, has done something that politicians rarely do — he’s said the quiet part out loud. In a rare moment of honesty, he’s admitted that the government sees free speech as a liability.

“I recognize and I fully said from the beginning, we don’t have the same freedom of speech laws that they have in the United States, and the reason for that is that we want to hold together a multicultural community and have people live in peace.”

Meaning: Your rights are negotiable, and the price is social harmony — as defined by the state.

The absurdity of this argument is hard to overstate. Historically, the country thrived on its rough-and-tumble political culture, where disagreements were hashed out in public rather than smothered under layers of legalese. The idea that Australians must now muzzle themselves to accommodate imported conflicts is an outright admission of failure by the political class.

Minns and his allies argue that restricting speech is necessary because multiculturalism has made Australia too volatile to handle open debate. But let’s take a step back. Why is Australia suddenly on edge? Is it because everyday Australians have become more hateful and intolerant, or is it because the government has spent decades encouraging division through identity politics?

The immediate context for Minns’ comments is the recent passage of hate speech laws, pushed through Parliament in a frenzy of moral panic. The justification? A crisis that turned out to be a hoax, reportedly concocted by criminals looking for lighter sentences — something the government allegedly knew early on.

MLC John Ruddick didn’t mince words when he addressed this in Parliament:

“Parliament was misinformed by the Minns government about the urgency of the bills referred to in one A, B, and C… this House calls on the Minns government to repeal the bills… and apologize for both misleading this Parliament, preventing a Parliamentary Inquiry, and further curbing free speech principles by these reactionary bills.”

Minns’ response? Doubling down:

“There have been some that have been agitating in the Parliament to nullify the laws to remove them off the statute books. Think about what kind of toxic message that would send to the NSW community.

“And I think the advocates for those changes need to explain what do they want people to have the right to say?

“What kind of racist abuse do they want to see or to be able to lawfully see on the streets of Sydney?”

This is an old trick — framing any challenge to speech restrictions as a demand for open racism. It’s dishonest, it’s lazy, and it conveniently ignores the fact that these laws will never be enforced evenly.

These laws will be used against dissenters. Against people who question government policies. Against critics of the ruling ideology.
