Zelensky Says It’s ‘Not Very Pleasant’ That Trump Spoke With Putin First
The Kremlin has confirmed that a Trump-Putin summit in a third country is happening soon
Ukrainian President Voldomyr Zelensky said Thursday that it was “not very pleasant” that President Trump spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin a day earlier before calling him.
“We’ve already had three conversations with President Trump, so I don’t take this call as a priority (for Trump), that he spoke to Russia first. Although it’s really not very pleasant in any case,” Zelensky told reporters while visiting the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant in western Ukraine.
“As for the conversation, he knows my thoughts. I really believe that Ukraine is the priority first and foremost, there is a war against us,” he added.
The call between Trump and Putin marked the first time in three years that the leaders of the US and Russia held a publicly known phone call. After the conversation, Trump said negotiations to end the war would start “immediately,” and then he called Zelensky.
The Kremlin said on Thursday that Trump and Putin both offered the other to visit their respective countries but that a summit in a third country would happen first.

Syrian 'National Dialogue' To Exclude Kurds, Former Government Figures
A conference will be held to provide non-binding recommendations to the president for a future Syrian constitution
Syria’s upcoming national dialogue conference will include all segments of Syrian society except for representatives of the Kurdish-led autonomous administration in the northeast and figures connected to the former government of president Bashar al-Assad, organizers announced on 13 February.
“This will be the first real gathering of Syrians in 75 years,” claimed Huda al-Atassi, a member of the conference’s organizing committee, during a press briefing in Damascus.
The conference will cover “social, political, economic and governance issues, laying the foundations for a solid future based on national consensus, justice, reform and inclusion,” she said.
However, proposals discussed at the conference will not be binding. They will only be provided as recommendations to the Syrian presidency.
Militants from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), led by former Al-Qaeda in Iraq leader Ahmad al-Sharaa, who went by the nom de guerre Abu Mohammad al-Julani, toppled the Assad government in December. Sharaa, who declared himself president earlier this month, says that it will take years to adopt a new constitution and hold elections.

Hegseth Says No NATO Membership For Ukraine, Return To Pre-2014 Borders ‘Unrealistic’
The secretary says Ukraine needs 'robust security guarantees' that won't involve a NATO troop deployment
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth on Wednesday dismissed the idea of NATO membership for Ukraine as part of a peace deal with Russia and said the goal to restore Ukraine to its pre-2014 borders was “unrealistic.”
Hegseth made the comments while addressing a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in Brussels. “The United States does not believe that NATO membership for Ukraine is a realistic outcome for a negotiated settlement,” he said.
Hegseth said the Trump administration’s goal is to end the war through diplomacy, which he said must start “by recognizing that returning to Ukraine’s pre-2014 borders is an unrealistic objective. Chasing this illusionary goal will only prolong the war and cause more suffering.”
Restoring Ukraine’s pre-2014 borders has been a war goal of Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelensky, although there have been signs in recent months that he’s accepted that’s unrealistic. But he is still calling for strong security guarantees from the US that involve the deployment of troops, which Hegseth also dismissed.
“Any security guarantee must be backed by capable European and non-European troops. If these troops are deployed as peacekeepers to Ukraine at any point, they should be deployed as part of a non-NATO mission, and they should not be covered under Article 5,” he said.

🚢 What KEY TRADE ROUTES Trump seeks to control | Part 2 👉 Part 1
🔶 Northern Sea Route
Offers an expedient way to ship goods between Europe and Asia along Russia’s Arctic Coast.
The US’s efforts under Trump to bolster its military presence in the Arctic may be an attempt to project influence at this maritime traffic artery.
🔶 Suez Canal
Serves as a key maritime trade route between Europe and Asia.
Though Trump has not explicitly stated any intent to gain control of this waterway, his attempts to crack down on the Houthi rebels in Yemen who previously attacked the US-linked shipping passing through the Suez Canal indicate his keen interest in this area.
🔶 South China Sea
Trump’s efforts to de facto antagonize China in the South China Sea under the pretext of ensuring freedom of navigation could be an attempt by the US to project its influence over this critical global trade route.
The volume of trade passing through the South China Sea annually is estimated at about $3.4 trillion.
🔶 Strait of Hormuz
Links the Persian Gulf with the Indian Ocean. About 20% of the global oil trade passes through it.
Though Trump does not openly seek to claim this strait for the US, he has vocally insisted on ensuring the freedom of navigation in the area and repeatedly cautioned Iran against any perceived threats to interfere with maritime traffic here.

Hamas Releases Three Hostages But Trump Restates Demand To Release All Of Them
Trump previously said that if Hamas did not release all Israeli captives on Saturday, Israel would have a greenlight to break the ceasefire
“Hamas has just released three Hostages from GAZA, including an American Citizen. They seem to be in good shape! This differs from their statement last week that they would not release any Hostages,” The president wrote on his Truth Social account.
The post continued, “Israel will now have to decide what they will do about the 12:00 O’CLOCK, TODAY, DEADLINE imposed on the release of ALL HOSTAGES. The United States will back the decision they make!”
Tel Aviv may view Trump’s post as a greenlight to break the ceasefire and resume its onslaught in Gaza. Israeli army chief Herzi Halevi said Saturday that it is his “duty to bring everyone back,” and the IDF is “investing in many efforts for this purpose, and at the same time, we are preparing offensive plans.”
Trump is restating a threat he made on Monday . “If all the hostages aren’t returned by Saturday at 12 o’clock, I think it’s an appropriate time. I would say cancel it, and all bets are off. Let hell break out,” he said.
Trump issued the threat after Hamas said it would display the hostage release scheduled for February 15 because Israel was not abiding by the ceasefire agreement. Since the deal went into effect on January 19, Israel has killed around 100 Palestinians in Gaza. Additionally, Tel Aviv is not letting in the amount of aid that was promised under the deal.

UN Says Israel Must Stop Killing Lebanese Civilians Trying To Return Home
UN Says Israel Must Stop Killing Lebanese Civilians Trying to Return Home
A group of UN experts have issued a statement on the ceasefire in Lebanon today, expressing outrage at Israel’s flagrant violations , including the killing of civilians trying to return to their homes, and the systematic destruction of those homes during the nominal cessation of hostilities.
In the first 60 days of what was intended to be a 60-day ceasefire, Israel killed at least 57 civilians, and destroyed 260 properties across southern Lebanon . The number killed has only grown since the ceasefire was extended by the US and Israel in late January, with 24 killed and 120 wounded in a two-day period when the ceasefire was supposed to be ending.
Destroying civilian homes has also been on the uptick during the extended period of the ceasefire, and hardly a day goes by where there is not a new report of bombing or burning civilians homes isn’t reported.
The extension bumped the ceasefire, and by extension the Israeli occupation of southern Lebanon, up to February 18. That date is fast approaching though, and Israeli officials are confirming they’re not leaving then either. Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Derner confirmed Thursday that Israel would at the least retain five hill-top surveillance posts they started establishing just in the last couple of weeks.
The details of this additional extension of the “ceasefire” remain up in the air . Lebanon is rejecting any further extension, though Israeli media is reporting that the US has agreed to a “ long term ” Israeli military presence on Lebanese soil. The US has yet to confirm this.

Al Mayadeen's correspondent reported on Saturday that Israeli occupation forces are building a new observation post near the agricultural tower in the town of Jabata al-Khashab, in the northern part of Quneitra, Syria.
A few days ago, the Israeli newspaper Maariv revealed that the Israel is "altering the reality in the areas where it is deployed in Syria, as it prepares for a long-term presence."
The newspaper confirmed that the Israeli army has transformed former Syrian military sites into Israeli installations, integrating advanced technological systems to ensure a prolonged presence in the buffer zone.
It quoted the Israeli army as stating that it "does not know how long the forces will need to remain in the buffer zone in Syria." However, based on developments on the ground, the army "has no intention of withdrawing shortly."
The newspaper also reported on some of the Israeli army’s actions in the area, noting that it carried out large-scale deforestation in the buffer zone, uprooting a forest.

Tel Aviv is pushing to maintain its occupation of five locations on the border with Lebanon after the extended truce comes to an end

According to the Israeli military, the strike targeted “a key member of Hezbollah's aerial unit.” The latest attack on Lebanese soil took place less than 72 hours before a unilaterally extended ceasefire comes to an end.
Tel Aviv also intensified its violations in the southern Lebanese towns of Kfar Kila and Yaroun on Saturday, detonating several residential homes using heavy explosives. Israeli attacks were also reported in the villages of Labouneh, Mays al-Jabal, and Houla.
Since a US-backed ceasefire agreement was put into effect in late November, the Israeli army has violated the terms of the deal hundreds of times, killing dozens of Lebanese citizens and injuring hundreds.

Iran Ready For 'Constructive Talks' With Lebanon To Resume Civilian Flights
Intense clashes broke out between the Lebanese army and protesters over Beirut's decision to prevent Iranian planes from landing in the country
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Lebanese counterpart, Youssef Rajji, spoke on the phone on 15 February to discuss ways to resolve a diplomatic row that has canceled passenger flights between the two nations.
According to a statement by the Iranian foreign ministry, the two officials “stressed the necessity for Iran and Lebanon to expand their ties in political, economic, trade, and cultural sectors based on mutual respect and in the best interest of both nations.”
Araghchi and Rajji also discussed resolving the issue of passenger flights between the two countries and expressed their readiness for “constructive talks.”
The phone call came hours after a peaceful sit-in protest turned chaotic outside Rafic Hariri International Airport.
Eyewitness accounts say Lebanese army troops fired tear gas canisters into a crowd of thousands while the Deputy Head of Hezbollah's Political Council, Mahmoud Qamati, was delivering a speech.
