UAE Envoy To Washington Claims 'No Alternative' To Ethnic Cleansing Of Gaza

Donald Trump’s controversial plan aims to displace the Gaza Strip’s population and grant the US ownership of the enclave

The Emirati ambassador to the US said in an interview on 12 February that he does not “see an alternative” to US President Donald Trump’s plan to expel Gaza’s residents, take over the strip, and redevelop it.

The UAE ambassador to the US said on Wednesday that he saw “no alternative” to Trump’s plan to expel Gaza’s population and redevelop the strip.

When asked by a reporter at the World Government Summit in Dubai if the UAE can find “common ground” with Washington on the matter, Ambassador Yousef al-Otaiba said: “We’re gonna try, I think the current approach is going to be difficult, but at the end of the day, we’re all in the solution seeking business. We just don’t know where it’s gonna land yet.

In response to a question about whether the UAE has a plan or alternative, he said: “Not yet. I don’t see an alternative to what’s being proposed, I really don’t. And so, if someone has one, we’re happy to discuss it, we’re happy to explore it. But it hasn’t surfaced yet.

Trump announced last week that the US will “take over” Gaza and relocate its population to neighboring countries, claiming that the plan aims to find a safer location for Palestinians while international development teams take charge of reconstructing the battered and besieged strip.

Yet the US president has since stated that Palestinians will not be allowed to return to Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu quickly jumped on board the plan.

Trump has been insisting on the idea of Jordan and Egypt taking in the Palestinian population of the strip, which both Arab states have rejected. Egypt has said that it plans to formulate a reconstruction plan that does not involve displacing Gaza’s residents.

Jordan’s King Abdullah II said that while meeting with Trump earlier this week, he “reiterated Jordan’s steadfast position against the displacement of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank,” adding that “This is the unified Arab position.”

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said in an interview that any attempt by Israel to deport Palestinians to Jordanian territory will be regarded as a “declaration of war.”

'I Much Prefer A Nuclear Deal': Trump Dismisses Talk Of US–Israeli Attacks On Iran Reports from last year said Trump’s team was mulling options for strikes on the Iranian nuclear program US President Donald Trump has denied that Washington and Tel Aviv are…
Report: Israel Likely To Bomb Iran In The Coming Months

Trump and his officials have hinted a military option against Iran is on the table if a deal isn't reached

The Washington Post reported on Wednesday that Israel will likely attempt to bomb Iran in the coming months, a move that would risk a major war in the region involving the US.

The report, which cited US intelligence, said the idea would be to bomb Iran’s nuclear facilities even though there’s no evidence Tehran has decided to build a nuclear weapon. President Trump even recently acknowledged that Iranian leadership doesn’t want a nuclear bomb.

The Post said that US intelligence produced a report during the final days of the Biden administration that warned about potential Israeli strikes, and another one was produced in the first days of the Trump administration.

The intelligence reports laid out two potential strike options for Israel that both involved US support in the form of aerial refueling, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance. The Wall Street Journal published a similar report that said Israel is expected to push President Trump to provide support for the attack.

President Trump recently dismissed rumors that the US and Israel might bomb Iran together, saying they were “greatly exaggerated.” But both he and some of his officials have suggested a military option is on the table if the US doesn’t reach a deal with Iran, and Trump’s re-imposition of his so-called “maximum pressure” campaign on Tehran appears to have made diplomacy less likely.

🇺🇸🇺🇦 REPORTER: What you said about Ukraine earlier -- the rare earth. Do you want them to give the rare earth to the United States? TRUMP: Yeah 📎 Aaron Rupar
NSA Waltz: US Must ‘Recoup’ Ukraine Aid By Taking Natural Resources

President Donald Trump’s National Security Adviser explained on Sunday that the White House will push for access to Ukraine’s rare earth minerals as the US has invested a considerable amount of money in Kiev’s war effort. Most of Ukraine’s mineral wealth is in areas held by Russia.

On NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” Mike Waltz explained, “The President is prepared to put all of those issues on the table, including the future of US aid to Ukraine. We need to recoup those costs.” He continued, “That will be a partnership with the Ukrainians in terms of their rare earth, natural resources, oil, and gas.”

The remarks echo statements from Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Last week, Trump said, “We’re looking to do a deal with Ukraine where they’re going to secure what we’re giving them with their rare earth and other things. We want a guarantee. We’re handing them money, hand over fist.”

Responding to Trump, Zelensky said, “If we are talking about a deal, then let’s do a deal, we are only for it.” He added, “The Americans helped the most, and therefore, the Americans should earn the most. And they should have this priority, and they will. I would also like to talk about this with President Trump.”

53% of the minerals in Ukraine are located in the four territories annexed by Russia. About a quarter of the minerals are in Dnipropetrovsk, a region bordering the annexed oblasts Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk. There is an estimated $14.8 trillion worth of resources in Ukraine.

While Trump pledged to end the protracted conflict in Ukraine on his first day in office, his administration has not yet offered a workable proposal to end the war. That Trump is considering exchanging future aid for mineral rights in Ukraine suggests the White House could extend the war well into the future.

However, Kiev has needs that more American money will not fix. Ukraine is losing territory to Russian forces and Kiev is facing manpower shortages. Additionally, support for the war has dropped, leading to more desertions.

Zelensky Interested In Trump’s Rare Earth Idea: ‘Let’s Do A Deal’

Trump said he wanted a deal with Ukraine that would give the US access to rare earth minerals in exchange for military aid

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview on Friday that he was interested in President Trump’s proposal for a deal that would involve the US getting access to Ukraine’s rare earth minerals in exchange for continued military aid.

If we are talking about a deal, then let’s do a deal, we are only for it,” Zelensky told Reuters . The Ukrainian leader insisted the deal wouldn’t involve “giving away” Ukraine’s resources but framed it as a partnership.

The Americans helped the most, and therefore, the Americans should earn the most. And they should have this priority, and they will. I would also like to talk about this with President Trump,” he said.

When Trump made the comments about a rare earth deal, he said he wanted a “guarantee” that the US would have access to the minerals because the US was giving Ukraine money “hand over fist.

While Trump still says he wants to end the war in Ukraine, the idea of a deal for continued US military aid suggests he thinks the US will continue supplying weapons, something Russia would likely not accept as part of a potential future peace deal.
