Telegram Confirms Warning Update After Proxy Link Concerns

Telegram has responded to reports of a vulnerability that allows proxy links to be disguised as usernames, potentially exposing users’ real IP addresses when clicked.
The issue affects Telegram’s mobile clients, where a malicious actor can mask a proxy link to appear like a normal username. Once tapped, the user unknowingly connects through an attacker-controlled proxy, allowing the proxy operator to see the user’s IP address.
In its response, Telegram stated that IP visibility is standard for any website or proxy service, comparing it to platforms such as WhatsApp and other web based services. According to Telegram, this behavior is not unique to its platform.
However, acknowledging the potential for abuse through disguised links, Telegram confirmed it is adding a warning prompt that will appear when users click on proxy links. This update is intended to help users identify and avoid misleading or hidden proxy connections.
The issue was first highlighted by International Cyber Digest, prompting Telegram’s official clarification and the upcoming safety related update.

We’re facing serious issues when connecting to Swiss servers. This has been happening for over a week now.

When connected to Switzerland ( Zurich servers), many websites stop working including X.com, ChatGPT, Gmail,Grok, and even our own website. It basically blocks most sites completely.

However, when we switch to US servers, everything works perfectly fine. So the issue seems specific to the Swiss servers.

We are paying for the Proton Plus plan, and it’s frustrating that several servers especially Switzerland are not functioning properly.

Please urgently check and fix the Swiss servers. If this issue cannot be resolved, kindly remove or disable the problematic servers until they are stable.
