Tule osoittamaan mieltä ympäristölle haitallisia yritystukia vastaan Suomen suurimman yritystukien saajan, UPM:n, toimiston edustalle 30.4. klo 11-12! Aloitetaan vapun vietto muistuttamalla, että samalla kun hallitus leikkelee hyvinvointivaltiota palasiksi, se jakaa miljoonia euroja suuryrityksille.
Viimeisen viiden vuoden aikana UPM on saanut yritystukia 139 miljoonaa euroa.

Come and demonstrate against environmentally harmful corporate subsidies in front of the office of UPM, Finland's largest recipient of corporate subsidies, on April 30th from 11-12! Let's start the May Day celebration by reminding ourselves that while the government is cutting the welfare state into pieces, it is distributing millions of euros to large corporations.
Over the past five years, UPM has received 139 million euros in corporate subsidies. The same company is driving Finnish forest species towards extinction with its logging and is establishing eucalyptus plantations in Uruguay, which are destroying local nature and draining groundwater. In addition to deforestation and pulp colonialism, UPM is known for, among other things, withdrawing from general collective agreements and large-scale layoffs at its paper mills. On top of all this, UPM does not even need corporate subsidies. The company's comparable operating profit last year alone was over 200 million.
We gather in front of UPM's office (Alvar Aallon katu 1, Helsinki) to remind decision-makers that instead of supporting large corporations, money should be invested in people's well-being and nature conservation. At the same time, we demand that UPM stop irresponsible profiteering at the expense of nature and people.

Do you want to learn about forest mapping? Come join us in the forest to learn what it is and how to participate!
When: Tuesday, May 19th
Time: 17:15 - 20:00
Where: Landbo, Östersundom
Register here: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/hJRBmWMu4v
Forest mapping is a tool used to gain information about a forest, for example the condition of the forest and what kinds of species are in there. This information can be used to help protect forests, for example by finding threatened species of moss, lichen or polypores. This trip will be guided by forest mappers Otto Snellman and Ida Korhonen.
This is a beginner friendly event, which means that you do not need to know anything about forests. Since we are a youth organization, this event is aimed primarily towards young people (up to 29) - however, people of all ages are welcome to attend! The event will be held in mostly in English, but you will learn some Finnish terminology for forests and forest species.
We will be doing a lot of walking in this event, so please be prepared for that.
We will have a joint departure from Itäkeskus at 16:48 on bus 831 which will take us to Landbo. The end stop is in zone C, so you will need to have a valid ticket. You are also welcome to arrive another way.
You will be emailed the event meeting location and more logistics a few days before the event.
If you have any questions, you can send them to sommer.ackerman@luontoliitto.fi

Come join us this pride to go queer birding and enjoy a community picnic 🌈🦅
🦅 When: Thursday, June 25th
🦆 Time: 16:00 - 20:00
🦉 Where: Lauttasaari beach, Helsinki
Sign up here: https://forms.office.com/e/3C2dD077zj
We will gather together at Lauttasaari beach and find a nice place to set up comfortable picnic spots. We can talk, relax, eat and watch sea birds together. You are welcome to join and leave at any time!
Queer bird guide Sommer Ackerman will help you identify birds, and tell you about the connection between queerness and nature. This event is here to strengthen the bond between queer people who like nature!
There are the options to play some games together, go on small side walks to see more birds, or you can just sit and relax.
For the picnic, it is welcome if you bring something to sit on, such as a blanket. It is great if you bring some vegan food to share, such as bread, fruit, cake, drinks, etc... If you cook some food yourself, it would be great if you could write down what ingredients you used for the sake of allergy purposes.
This is a beginner friendly event, which means that you do not need to know anything about birds. Since we are a youth organization, this event is aimed primarily towards young people (up to 29) - however, people of all ages are welcome to attend! The main language of the event will be in English, but you will be taught the names of the Birds in Finnish as well. We also have a telescope, bird books and a few pairs of binoculars to share.

Our birds are under threat!
Come join us for a lobbying evening, where we will send messages to the members of the Finnish Parliament asking them to not adopt this bill! We will have a message template ready, but you are free to write your own message in whatever language is most comfortable for you.
When: Friday, June 12th
Time: 18:00 - 20:00
Place: In person at Leankatu 4a, Pasila, Helsinki and Online
Register here: https://forms.office.com/e/p1mPFpRCb7
The government has proposed to transfer valkoposkihanhi (Barnacle goose) and merimetso (Cormorant) from the Nature Conservation Act to the Hunting Act. to reduce damages caused to agriculture and fisheries. Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture requested statements regarding the bill and the next step is for it to go to parliament to be voted on.
BirdLife considers the proposal to be unlawful and to increase the loss of nature. The general conservation status of birds would be significantly weakened, as the effects of spring and summer hunting would also extend to all other protected species occurring in the same areas. Uncontrolled hunting would disturb the birds at the most sensitive time of the year in important resting and breeding areas for birds, which would accelerate the loss of habitat. Although the bill directly affects only two species – the cormorant and the barnacle goose – it threatens the entire system designed to protect birds and poses a serious threat to other bird species.
The sign up form is made so that it will be easier to send you the template resources by email!
