You no longer need to say "Hey Google" with the upcoming "Quick phrases" feature
Folk at 9To5Google found out that there a in-development feature in Google Assistant, codename Guacamole as early back in April. The feature will let you use Assistant without needing to say the hotwords. Now they have found more information about how it works.
Previously it was named "Voice shortcuts", and now it has been renamed to "Quick phrases", description remain unchanged: Skip saying “Hey Google” for help with specific tasks. Salsas is the special name that Google give for the specific tasks here.
There are several category for adding salsas. After adding it, there a last section which will be "Devices where Assistant can respond to your salsas." This section is not finish developed yet, but smart home speakers & display will be part of it. No confirmed information whether it will be released or not, so take this info as a grain of salt. Google Assistant rolling out Reminders Hub
To add a reminder in Google Assistant, the only way is to use voice command or manually type in in the Assistant page earlier. Google is finally rolling out a hub for Reminders for users who don't like to use voice commands to set it.
You will see the reminders you set over there with a few details, including the date and time you set for it to remind you and whether it recurring or not. Reminders also has check box next to them, you can tap on it to mark it as complete. You can edit them by opening it and edit the name, date, time and more. It also include a floating action button to create a new reminder.
By the way, hope to see Material You redesign with this when it rollout. (XDA-Developers)

You no longer need to say 'Hey Google' for some Assistant commands with Quick Phrase
Earlier people at 9To5Google have already spotted this feature to be in the work. Apparently, someone got early access to it.
When you received incoming call, you just need to say "Answer" or "Decline" and Google Assistant will do the job for you. Same for ringing alarm, you just need to say "Stop" or "Snooze". No "Hey Google" keyword needed.
One downside is that if you enabled Quick Phrases for incoming calls, you will need to aware that if someone says or there any noise that sounds like "answer", else your call with the person will start without your confirmation. Google Assistant will also remind you that you can say to trigger the actions instead of tapping the button.
XDA's Mishaal Rahman spotted it on his Pixel 3 XL running latest Android 12 beta. He also said that the "learn more" page is an internal webpage for now. So an accidental rollout by Google for him. (XDA Developers)

Google Assistant ‘Continued Conversation’ seems to be broken on all Pixel phones
9To5Google
Google Assistant "Continued Conversation" debut with the Pixel 4, and it has been included in all newer Pixels till the latest Pixel 6, but for the past week or so, it starts to become non-functional in all Google Pixel devices.
After giving the command and getting a response, the Assistant light bar vanish instantly, and you have to activate it again in order to use it again. When working normally, it should continue to listen for the next 10 seconds.
Google seems to be aware of the issue at this point, and they said they are working on "an immediate fix" (lol). Anyway, an update for the fix will be release soon to restore the functionality.

You can find the feature over at Google Assistant settings. Tapping on it will bring you to a dedicated page which shows you stuff that are related to it. There is a carousel which guide you on how to use the feature. Scrolling upwards and you will see suggestion cards.
Welp, didn't use this feature once so can't talk much about it. Anyway, you can learn more from the world of Internet if you are interested.

Google Assistant app shortcut in Play Store just hit 1 billion downloads
Android Police
Google Assistant is no doubt one of the smartest assistant of all time, not even Siri can surpass it. Anyway, the shortcut app in the Play Store has reached 1 billion downloads milestone.
Although Google Pixel doesn't preinstalled it, some other OEMs do though, which is why the downloads number can boost up in quite a few months time. Anyway the Google Assistant app in Play Store is basically just a shortcut to open up Assistant, there's no extra functionality after installing it.
In case you missed it, the last app to reach 10 billion installs milestone is Gmail.
