COMMENT: This is not journalism, this is propaganda dressed up as journalism. Published in the Cork Examiner newspaper without transparency as to its providence, it gives the appearance of being an article written by a journalist rather than the point of view of the Institute of Strategic Development who employs its author, Mr O Connor, as an analysist. The Institute of Strategic Development was founded in 2016 as a left leaning think tank tasked with combating their version of ‘hate’. So far it has trained 32,000 activists who amongst other tasks monitor on line ‘far right’ channels. I am sure they are monitoring this channel, ISD, if you are listening in you are welcome to do so. Ireland Awake operates with transparency, the Institute of Strategic Development is circumspect about its sources of funding although a considerable portion of their website is given over to how you can make a donation in a variety of ways. For the record Ireland Awake operates without funding and seeks no donations. The ISD is entitled to their point of view but the laziness shown by the Cork Examiner in not challenging any of the propaganda or seeking the other side of the debate is as disappointing as it is breathtaking. But I suppose the article does go someway towards filling up a page for the Examiner. Is this what journalism has descended to.

COMMENT EXTRA: The Scottish Parliament has stalled a bill that would have seen conversion therapy banned in Scotland by the end of the year. Conversation therapy covers a range of treatments and thereputic techniques aimed at making a homosexual person straight. These therapies have attracted controversy from illiberal liberals mainly for ideological reasons although most therapists would see these therapies as having limited value only. The reason why the legislation was withdrawn and replaced with a consultation process that will report back sometime next year is because parents and others trying to dissuade a child from transitioning to another gender could find themselves at the wrong side of the law. As well as parents, doctors, teachers, therapists, clergy and others would be hugely impeded in how they could engage with the child. This law would have represented extreme government overreach into the family so reasonable people can be delighted that it has been withdrawn. Recently Scotland was in the news for wanting to bring in a gender recognition act much like what we in Ireland are oppressed with. This led to the collapse of the Scottish National Party, a party highly infiltrated by LGBQT advocacy groups and the stepping down of Nicola Sturgeon, SNP leader.

Looks like at least one the Uzbeks up on terrorism related charges today was a former inmate at Guantánamo Bay detention camp who was resettled here when he was released in 2009 and received permanent residency rights at the request of then Justice Minister Dermot Ahern along with one other unnamed person after Jabbarov became the focus of several months’ campaigning by Irish human rights groups seeking to bring him here.

Oybek Jabbarov case was widely cited at the time as an example of how innocent people were branded terrorists by Afghan militiamen in return for lucrative cash bounties from US forces.

Jabbarov claimed he and his wife and child were living as refugees near the Afghan-Uzbek border in October 2001 when he accepted a lift in a car from a military faction at war with the Taliban, but that the soldiers then kidnapped him and delivered him to US troops to collect an easy bounty.

His US lawyer, Michael Mone, said “My client is more Borat than he is Kahlid Sheik Mohammed” and says Jabbarov has been hoping to resettle in Ireland because it is a land with many sheep, and he was a shepherd back home in Uzbekistan.

Today Oybek Jabbarov was charged with directing the activities of a criminal organisation between 2009 (the year he arrived here) and 2019 and also charged with providing, collecting or receiving funds for the benefit of a terrorist group.
