Patronize a Star
Conflicts and quarrels inevitably begin in a closed team or collective. It has long been recognized by sociologists. So maybe that is why in the news we constantly hear about a fight, a conflict and even about a war! Are we, the people of planet Earth, not a closed isolated collective? Perhaps, in order to minimize our strife and civil tension, we need to set our minds and energy not on each other, but to… the wide open vastness of space — the territory that begins a little over than 60 miles above our heads.
That vast territory does not lack of space, energy, light and heat. The asteroids that regularly pass by our planet consist of precious metals and minerals that exceeds our Earth reserves. Yet the cosmos research goes not that fast as we desperately need. Instead, we keep re-partition our small planet, keep confronting, insulting and fighting. Moreover, one of the obstacle we surprisingly find on not exploring the space deeply is a lack of funding of space research laboratories while those could do a good job on that. You can read my intro article on Medium about that.
Therefore, I have decided to found a campaign to fund space research laboratories in various parts of the world. This campaign is called "Patronize a Star". It is a community campaign for the community and for all humankind. You can take part in this global space research program and feel at the forefront of explorers’ community of vast cosmos.
Choose one of the brightest stars in one of 88 constellations and mint that star. Your "patronage" will be perpetuated in the blockchain. As a certificate, you will receive an NFT — a unique image of a constellation with your star marked.
The images are made with specific geospatial data processing software based on official data from HYG star catalog (Database containing all stars in Hipparcos, Yale Bright Star, and Gliese catalogs, almost 120,000 stars). With that, each object on image has the precise position, magnitude and stellar classification, exactly as they are located in the real sky. In description of each NFT you will find the exact attributes for that star as well as a short info, if that star is researched.
The stars are made in a form of Ethereum-like symbol, paying tribute to blossoming cryptocurrency epoch.
The collection is planned to be of 10 000 items. That is about 120 brightest stars for each of 88 constellations. However, since such a precision takes time to build I cannot publish everything at once. I chose Aquila constellation to be the first and all 120 images of that constellation are ready.
Since those are not really artworks, do not expect them to be very fancy or impressive. Nevertheless, I have attempted to make boring scientific sky charts a bit more interesting by adding the constellation outline. That lets the picture to look informative at the close range but also gives an idea when the image is looked scaled down, in case one would feel proud to put it on avatar.
The main thought underpinning the whole collection is a charity, not an investment. I put zero royalty to the collection. But if you would look at this campaign from an investor perspective, the campaign may work out for you in the future because:
• The whole collection is limited to 10 000 items, approximately 120 brightest stars for each of 88 constellations. Out of all 300 000 sky stars somewhat studied those are the most rare items.
• Price for each new constellation released will vary based on popularity of previous ones.
• While it has started as a charity project, it can become a big deal once all constellations are published in the collection and the collection is locked by the smart contract for any further changes.
Now when the first constellation is ready I'm starting the first phase of Patronize a Star campaign. I have minted the first 12 NTFs myself and put them on sale at Rarible and OpenSea just to designate the price range I have in mind.
Hereby I would like to do an airdrop of the next 10 NFTs.

Hereby I would like to do an airdrop of the next 10 NFTs.
If you got interested in the campaign and want to mint one of the first NFTs, please leave your Ethereum address in the comments. I will airdrop to the first 10. But you will have to cover the gas. Once you will get the NFT into your possession, please tweet that with #PatronizeAStar hashtag to help spread the word about the campaign.
If you got interested in the campaign but found this later, when the first 10 slots are filled, then join the pre-sale. The next 10 addresses after the airdrop could mint their NFTs with the price as low as 0.02 ETH. If your comment with Ethereum address will be between 10 and 20 I will invite you for the pre-sale.
After we complete the airdrop and the first pre-sale round we will ask space laboratories which will get the funds to acknowledge it and I will publish their acknowledges in one of my next posts so we all stay in the loop and see how the campaign is going.
I strongly believe that such a community activity will cool down our social tension and give a bigger, more interesting game.
And then, who knows, maybe a life will be found around the star you took patronage for!

New website for Patronize a Star Campaign
The initial workflow for the Patronize a Star NFT campaign was that we were whitelisting addresses on premint.xyz and then whitelisted users were minting their NFTs through Factoria.app. The campaign didn’t have its own website and that seemed to be quite sufficient.
Since the NFT campaign has grown and we got over a dozen positive posts on Reddit and forums from different users, the demand for the campaign NFTs increases and it is time to deliver better user experience and make a website for the campaign. Some of the users want to mint a specific item, some ask to reserve one of those items for the future at a specific price. The 3rd party services do not allow such a flexibility.
So here is the brand new website for the campaign: https://patronizeastar.xyz. The front page got only a header so far but the mint page is ready. Those who won their free airdrop can still mint it at Factoria.app but the same functionality is available on the new website as well. And for those who missed the airdrop and subsequent presale, we have extended the presale for another week to celebrate this new milestone of the campaign. So you still have time to mint at the lowest price ever at https://patronizeastar.xyz/mint.
The project gets bigger and more popular, and now we will be able to do even more.
