Good morning residents.
My understanding of the power situation is as follows :
1. We are currently on load reduction so that everyone gets some power somebof the time
2. They give a time slot but have to energize section by section to avoid further damages. Mini subs in areas eats of the N1 exploded yesterday when power was restored due to huge surges
3. What we know so far is that the initial fire at the Waltloo substation caused a backsurge to the Njala station and damaged one of its lines. there is thus only one line to distribute from.
4. Because the load is too high for the available grids, the planned rotation could not be implemented as planned. That is why some you might have seen that you were supposed to have had power, but it didnt come on.
5. The officials are currently working on the Pumulani station to find a way to direct power via the Northern network back to our areas. At the moment the focus is on restoring the major supply , once this is done and power is switched on, the minor problems in the local networks will be exposed, and only then will work start to restore those who didnt have power prior to the large outage yesterday morning
6. We are all affected by this and understand the frustration.
7. A meeting is being arranged between ward councillors and senior officials to get a true understanding of the situation and the plans to address this.
8. As and when information is obtained it will be shared.
9. Please be patient as information is not supplied regularly.

The first was at 6h00 to 9h00, on from 9h00 to 12h00, off again 12h00 to 15h00 and so on.
When power is restored it cannot be retsored to all areas at once as this could cause further trips. They energize suburb by suburb. So not everyone will have power at 15h00. It may take a while.

I have spoken to the divisional head who confirmed load reduction will continue in 3 hour blocks( relative to switch on again susburb by suburb to avoid overload)
They are busy redirecting temporarily from from Rietvlei/ Littleton to try and keep the eastern suburbs on until Waltloo can be repaired.
I am aware of these *smaller outages*
SINCE MONDAY before Waltloo went down. They are brought to the attention of the depot repeatedly :
