This is probably one of my most shared clips.

The then Táinaiste and Peter Sutherland protégé, Simon Coveney, let the cat of the bag at a public meeting at the Goat Bar & Grill in Goatstown on the 27th of November 2018, unaware he was being recorded.

He had previously told Newstalk of the government's desire to double the population of every city outside Dublin but nobody had asked him how.

That evening he explained the plan was to import half a million immigrants over the following 20 years while trying to avoid migration becoming a political issue. It was a startling admission but he could rely on the media to never report on his remarks.

But not even I could have envisioned we'd already be two thirds of the way there with a population increase of 340k just six years on. Imagine what the next 14 will be like if we don't turn this around.

This report doesn't say who the 7,000 new registrations were but Kerry accommodates 7,292 Ukrainians along with 1,200 international protection applicants. I expect there's a similar pattern around the country.

An Xpost by Paul Trevaud went viral yesterday claiming 600 Ukrainians were added to the register in Killarney in one day alone last week and all orchestrated by one local election candidate.

It's a good idea to make sure any new voters are aware how to vote.

PR-STV is a simple voting system. Counting the votes gets complicated but that is not the concern of voters.

🔹 Just rank as many or as few candidates as you like in your order of preference: 1, 2, 3...

🔹 Do not write ANYTHING except numbers on the ballot or it will be marked spoiled and discounted.

🔹 If you are only voting for one candidate, DO NOT put an X. Put a 1 beside their name.

The creation of PR-STV is credited to Scottish mathematician Thomas Smith and English lawyer Thomas Hare who both sought independently to devise the fairest method to elect public representatives in the mid 1800s.

While PR-STV was never adopted across the UK, London was rattled by Sinn Féin's landslide victory in the 1918 general election and wanted to boost the electability of the minority unionist population in Ireland so they passed an act in 1919 replacing FPTP with PR-STV as our voting system. We've continued to use it since. Make use of it.
