This week, St Mary’s Primary School on Dorset St in Dublin was being celebrated for becoming the first school to be divested from the patronage of the Catholic Church to the Educate Together NGO.
There’s been a big drive to divest more, but a majority of parents of the children in any school have to agree to it.
This has hindered the process as a majority of Irish parents, even where they are not interested in a Catholic ethos, still prefer their children to attend a Catholic school rather than be subjected to the ethos of an Educate Together one.
In 2018, RTÉ ran the report above about how at least 90% of the pupils in St. Mary’s are now foreign. According to the CSO, just 7% of local residents described themselves as ‘white Irish’.
This is how they solve their problem.

In her 2002 election campaign flyer for Dublin South-Central, Áine Ní Chonaill of Immigration Control Platform predicted that in a decade, the foreign-born population of Dublin would reach 20%.
The media accused her of spreading hate.
By 2011, Dublin City was 21% foreign-born.
They smear as hate figures those who tell the public the truth.

In 2004, Peader Tóibín campaigned against the referendum on birthright citizenship, claiming most people on the doors opposed it because Irish people had "a great ability to relate the the new immigrant population."
79% of voters subsequently voted to pass the referendum, removing the constitutional right for foreign women to give birth in Ireland and claim Irish citizenship for their child.
In 2019, Tóibín voted on a bill to restore birthright citizenship, ignoring the will of the people, along with Carol Nolan and Mattie McGrath.

Massive turnout in Ballina.
After some speeches at the Twin Trees Hotel, they've now started a silent march up to the market square.
"Contemplate what has been said here ... Think about the next generation. Think about your kids and think about your future grandkids. Think about the people who've come before us who've made this into a great town and a great country with the sweat of their brow and the broad of their back. Are we going to give it up without a fight?"

Minister Helen McEntee: 80 per cent of asylum seekers are arriving from the UK.
Last week, I highlighted the case of a Palestinian man living in Jordan who said he arrived in Dublin to file an asylum application by first applying for a UK visa as a Jordanian citizen, flying into Luton and then over to Belfast. He said the visa prohibited him from filing an asylum application in the UK.
Footage captured in March showed a family of Africans arriving on O'Connell St in a taxi from the north who subsequently went to the IPO.
Also in March, the High Court ruled that Ireland's designation of the UK as a "safe third country" for returning asylum seekers is contrary to EU law. The new EU pact does not address this.
McEntee here mentions our common travel area with the UK but it doesn't apply to non-British citizens. Taxi drivers or anyone facilitating their transit from the north should face charges of migrant trafficking.

In 2023, EU member states accepted 188 asylum seekers being returned from Ireland to their jurisdiction for the processing of their applications under the Dublin Agreement. The Dept of Justice returned three.

Justice Minister Helen McEntee says here that asylum seekers who mislead authorities with false documents will be subject to the EU pact's Border Procedure "if they come through the border".
Her remark suggests there's a category of asylum seeker who will be able to mislead authorities but won't be subject to the Border Procedure if they gain entry to Ireland in a particular manner.

Garda Commissioner Drew Harris' willingness to make gardaí the target for the anger from communities against government policy is causing serious reputational damage to the force.
At 2am last night, gardaí were ordered to break up the protest in Newtownmountkennedy so that a number of trucks carrying equipment for setting up tented accommodation for asylum seekers could enter the River Lodge grounds.
The people are rightly furious.
This footage was captured by EU & local election candidate @PhilipDwyerMOI who's been livestreaming at the site all day. Irish citizens can support his election campaign on gofund.me.

Michael McNamara TD asked another good question during the joint committee on the EU pact on asylum and migration on Tuesday.
In 2023, of the 3,285 migrants who presented at Dublin Airport without a passport, zero were prosecuted.
After McNamara had asked why this was the case and it became embarrassing for the government, suddenly some migrants without travel documents started being prosecuted.
McNamara wondered how does that happen in a country where prosecutions are supposed to be completely independent of the political system?
Answers on a postcard to Garda Commissioner Drew Harris OBE...
