The 50-year-old Algerian man charged with eight offences in connection with the stabbing spree outside a gaelscoil on Parnell Square in Dublin last month has been named as Riad Bouchaker. He appeared before Dublin District Court this afternoon.
Among the charges are the attempted murder of three children and assault causing serious harm to a care worker.
The final charge was for the production of a 36-centimetre kitchen knife, and in reply to that offence, he told gardaí, "I am a sick person".
The accused listened to the proceedings with the help of an Arabic interpreter after communicating that "I do not understand".
Judge Smyth granted a request for Riad Bouchaker's legal team not to be identified in media reports.

The last thing they want is an economy where standards of living and work conditions naturally improve as employers are forced to compete for staff. They need the cycle of poverty and dependency to continue.

Noone Transport say an incident captured on CCTV on Tuesday of illegals emerging from one of their trailers occurred in the UK. The location of the incident had been misidentified as Ashbourne on social media.
The illegals had used specialised tools to create an opening in the trailer’s roof for access and authorities were immediately notified.
Last year, the CEO of Perennial Freight, one of Ireland’s largest transport companies, stated that illegals were being found concealed in trucks arriving in Rosslare every single week and that the situation was getting worse.
In January, a French news outlet reported a surge in illegals breaking into lorries in Cherbourg port trying to reach Ireland. The port authorities recorded 1,000 such incidents in a single month, a doubling of the figure from the prior year.
One illegal interviewed said he wanted to get to Ireland because France had rejected his asylum application and he understood Ireland as having a more lenient asylum system.

1. Ballinrobe
There was a large protest in Ballinrobe Friday night upon locals getting news of 50 male migrants to be planted in the town. Government subsequently U turned on this and informed locals it would be families instead. Some were satisfied by this but other locals are continuing a blockade outside the premises.
2. Urlingford
The blockade of a building marked for plantation was reached day 12 with locals blocking the entrance with a caravan and maintaining a presence around the clock. There was a large protest on Saturday with a large number of the towns population in attendance. Another mass protest is planned this Saturday for 2pm.
3. Fermoy
The blockade outside Abbeyville house has reached day 49. Locals are determined to stay vigilant.
4. Carlow
On Wednesday night there was a large protest outside the Capuchin center. Protests are expected to continue.

Heavy scenes in Roscrea as gardaí attempt to break up the protest outside Racket Hall Hotel to force a busload of asylum seekers into the property. The hotel has been earmarked to accommodate 160 asylum seekers on top of the the 600 already being hosted in two other properties in the town.
