Bernie Linnane, a local election Labour candidate, says she was barred from attending a meeting in Dromahair last night with a Community Engagement Team from the Dept of Equality.

The meeting had been set up by Sinn Féin TD Martin Kenny for Govt representatives to liaise with two members of the Concerned Residents Group about plans to house 155 asylum seekers in the village, following an escalation of tensions.

Linnane told Ocean FM that the she and Green Party Chairperson Bláithín Gallagher from 'Leitrim For All' had also been invited to the meeting by the CET at the request of Martin Kenny but both were refused entry by members of the Concerned Residents group waiting outside.

A spokesperson for the group says it was felt that having rival groups at the meeting would be counter-productive and advised Leitrim For All to request a separate meeting.

Martin Kenny said he's disappointed the meeting wasn't more inclusive where assurances were provided that there will be no immediate arrival of asylum seekers.
