The inordinate acceptance of Ukrainian refugees was the Irish eliteโs admission fee to be part of the Western alliance without having functional defence forces with the precedent all too relevant when it comes to this new Cold War in Africa.

Banagher Convent in County Offaly is set to accommodate 120 asylum seekers.
Built in 1836, the convent school closed its doors in 2010 when it amalgamated into the new Banagher College.
Since then, the Laois Offaly Education Training Board has left the building to rot, but not that it matters as the taxpayer surely picked up the renovation bill to prepare it for the town's new guests.
Locals did have lots of great ideas to repurpose the old convent with suggestions like:
๐น A local business hub with meeting rooms.
๐น A charity hub with drop-in centres.
๐น A weekly indoor market selling local goods.
๐น A historical library.
๐น A theatre space for the local acting groups.
๐น A scout den.
๐น Living spaces for young people who want to move out of their parents' houses.
But no, instead it will be used to house a new voting block for planter politicians.

Ukrainians living in the Breaffy Woods hotel near Castlebar have expressed their opposition to a government directive that they pay for their own meals in a letter addressed to to Wilson Bird, the general manager of the hotel, which accommodates 333 Ukrainians and 132 international protection applicants.
The letter, signed by the โresidents of Breaffy Woods reception centre,โ states that the food does not meet โhealthy standardsโ set out by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and โis not equivalent to the cost offered.โ
Earlier this year, the government announced that Ukrainians staying in hotels would have to pay โฌ10 per adult and โฌ5 per child each day for their food. They can be requested to leave upon failure of payment.
But the Ukrainians in Breaffy claim this is a form of discrimination as international protection applicants are not expected to pay for their meals.
However, Ukrainians in Ireland have access to the full Irish welfare suite which includes a โฌ220 weekly job seekers allowance, โฌ40 per child in child welfare allowance and a state pension if they're over 66 years old, while International protection applicants receive โฌ38.80. They also have access to free health care.
โThe direct threat of the eviction of Ukrainian families, in case of non-payment of food contributions, violates the terms of the directive on temporary protection in EU countries for persons displaced as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, according to which the provision of housing is mandatory,โ the letter adds.
It also states that taking in additional asylum-seekers will โget in the way of fair distribution of food and result in failure to meet the food needs of the Ukrainian residentsโ.
I guess they don't have the proverb 'don't look a gift horse in the mouth' in Ukraine.
Hope to see them outside the gates of the hotel with some #BreaffyIsFull placards anyway or maybe a few with #UkrainiansFirst or #IrelandBelongsToUkrainians.
The government might actually listen to them.

Ballybrack locals say they were told by foreign security men that 60 asylum seekers are still set to take up residence at Ridge Hall in Ballybrack despite the building suffering fire damage last week.
The women told Philip Dwyer and Gavin Pepper that the men, who are purported to be employed by Global Risk Solutions, arrived in the village last night to mind the building but couldn't get access to the property.
They left the women feeling very intimidated after refusing to display their PSA identity badges which private security must display at all times. Some were identified as being asylum seekers staying at the direct provision centre in Dรบn Laoghaire.
One woman said the men kept their hoods up to shield their faces and started taking pictures of them from across the road. When approached, they fled. She also said at one point when the men were driving around in a black Audi, they started braking erratically, causing a woman driving behind them to nearly crash.

Dublin man strikes again.
>Mr Akrouf came to Ireland in November last year. Garda OโRourke feared he could apply for an Algerian passport without gardai knowing, and a flight could be booked on his behalf from outside the State.
>Pleading for bail, Danica Kinane said her client was unemployed but had applied for a work permit three months ago, and it remains outstanding, and he intended to work if given the opportunity.
One of the lads who 'lost' their passports.

Good, but the problem is they're not being discriminated against enough as some are still managing to slip through like the Algerian who viciously assaulted three people in a Dundalk takeaway last week, unprovoked.
