Fawaz Gerges, Professor of International Relations at the London School of Economics, tells Sky news his concern is that 'the far-right' in France might use the stabbying spree in Annecy this morning, in which several young children were injured, for political capital.

The Sky News host then queried why the French police would reveal the assailant was a Syrian refugee at all. Gerges responded that the UK police would know not to.

Gerges was also eager to note that the anti-terrorism police hadn't taken over investigation signalling that it perhaps wasn't an official terror attack as if that makes it any better. Three children are in a critical condition in intensive care.

Replies have been turned off but the post has currently racked up 795 quote tweets and counting.

Annecy, France: It has now been revealed that the 31-year-old Syrian man, who stabbed two adults and four children between the ages of 22 months and three years yesterday, is a serial asylum shopper who had not only been granted refugee status in Sweden but also in Italy and Switzerland too.

Only France rejected his application on the grounds that he had received refugee status elsewhere in Europe.

That means while submitting to the application process in all these countries, none of them flagged up the possibility that he suffered mental health issues which could pose a threat to the public, or if they did, they didn't care and he was allowed to roam around Europe at his leisure.

The fine to refuse any of the so-called refugees the EU wants relocate to Ireland will cost us only โ‚ฌ20,00 per head under a new EU deal to reform the block's asylum laws.

That's a bargain.

Aside the the societal damage which is priceless, they each easily cost more than โ‚ฌ20,00 per year in housing, heating, healthcare, food, education, social welfare, policing, legal fees, NGOs, family reunification etc, so there's massive savings to be made by simply refusing every single last one of them.

This report also states that EU member states are now allowed to draw up their own list of safe countries which asylum seekers can be deported to.

We can even deport them to "transition countries" outside the EU if asylum seekers travelled through them, and the report gives an example of one such country being Tunisia.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said the Government can provide about 10,000 bed places in refurbished accommodation for refugees.

Modular homes are now "a reality," the Taoiseach said today, with the first such homes "ready for occupation now in Cork" and this programme will be scaled up.

"Weโ€™re doing everything we can," Mr Varadkar said when asked what more the Government can do to house refugees.

Mr Varadkar also said, the 10,000 bed figure is for between now and the end of next year.

None will be available to homeless Irish people, those who are on housing lists, struggling to afford rent or couch surfers.

It comes after the EU fined Ireland โ‚ฌ1.5m for failing to accommodate 350 foreigners immediately upon arrival in the State.

Those of you languishing on the housing list in Longford might need to wait a little longer as the government wishes to prioritise recent arrivals from Nigeria, Algeria and Georgia for accommodation in the town.

Knowing Longford, it's probably mostly foreigners on the housing list anyway to be honest.

In the space of 15 years Irish 25-29 year olds have gone from 17th most likely in the EU to be still living at home (36%) to 5th most likely out of the 23 reporting so far (68%), ahead of Spain (67%) and just behind Italy (71%).

They can console themselves on reddit that at least we've moved on from the dark old days of the Catholic church and embraced diversity, I suppose.

Tipperary man to face council in court over a log cabin erected on his familyโ€™s land.

He says the only reason the log cabin was needed was because the council advised him he could be on the housing list for 10-15 years for a property.

"...but if I take it down, theyโ€™ve offically made me homeless. Iโ€™ve lived and worked here most of my life and paid taxes, and I canโ€™t keep a log cabin thatโ€™s there because the council couldnโ€™t fulfill their duties of giving me a house, and now they want it removed, but if I came in from another country, it would be handed to me.โ€

A statement of intent from the Dublin Says No committee.

"We will be switching our main focus to targeting the individuals responsible for orchestrating this mass influx of cheap foreign labour and the destruction of the housing market, homeless services and social cohesion.

"Those that have carried this out for ideological purposes and those who have profiteered of the back of it will now have the fight for Ireland's future brought firmly to their door steps.

"Personal and professional lives are in our sights. Sneaky deals and connections are to be dragged through the public domain."

Punchy.

A protest has been organised outside The Sacred Heart Convent School in Roscrea at 11am on Monday, the 12th of June.

Locals have been told the former convent school is being refurbished to accommodate 402 Ukrainians though many in the town suspect this is a ruse and it will end up being used to house many more international protection applicants due to size of the site which is situated next to a working primary school.

Locals found out about the plan last week when some of them noticed construction work being carried out and put pressure on their representatives to demand answers.

The town is already accommodating 70 international protection applicants at Corville House at Sean Ross Abbey, and locals fear the new arrivals, who are expected to start arriving at the end of the summer, will only strain services further with GP access and medical services as well as securing school places being some of their key concerns.

A facebook group for organising can be found here.
