Footage of Afghan refugee Habib Shamel (26) who was charged in Belfast today with the murder of Romanian prostitute Geila Ibram last Tuesday.
The footage was captured by a doorbell camera and first published privately in the hours after the murder by the Ugly Mugs app which is a community alert service for prostitutes. He had also been identified as an asylum seeker due to his phone number being govt issued.
However, the only the description the public were provided with while he was on the loose for three days was that he may or may not have a bandaged hand which we now learn he even sought treatment for in University Hospital Limerick before later travelling to Belfast on a bus.
Romanian media are calling the victim 'Melisa' and are quoting her mother who says she believed her daughter was in Germany with her new partner after leaving four children behind in Romania. She arrived in Ireland three weeks ago.
The Sex Work Alliance are blaming Ireland's adoption of the so-called Nordic Model for the murder.

>During a failed bail application Shamel’s lawyer argued he had a previously clear criminal record although police are still waiting for his Afghan record to be provided by authorities in Afghanistan.
I'd say they'll be waiting a while for his background check from Afghan authorities, lol. Sure don't they know Ireland has a very thorough vetting process in place for asylum seekers anyway. Just ask Kevin Magee 🙄

Reminder that Afghans are expedited through the asylum system in Ireland and nearly all are granted refugee status and can then apply for family reunification.
All parties in the Dáil except Fine Gael want to extend this programme's scope to include grandparents, children over 18, siblings, cousins, nephews & nieces, as was the case before 2015 when the average number of family members refugees brought into Ireland was 30. The highest was 70.

Gardaí in Galway are investigating a serious gang assault which occurred in the Raven's Terrace area of the city last Friday, April 7, shortly before 1am, and left one young man fighting for his life.
A garda spokesperson said that a group of men “seriously assaulted” a man in his early 20s, who was then rushed to University Hospital Galway and is currently in a “serious but stable” condition.
Any motorists with dashcam footage who were travelling around the areas of Bridge Street, Dominick Street and Ravens Terrace that night are being asked to come forward and provide it to gardaí.
Some commentary on the incident has suggested the victim was a Romanian and the attack was in retaliation for a previous incident, but this has not been confirmed.
One of the attackers, who can be heard using slang popular in the London grime scene, recorded his involvement in the assault and posted the video on social media.

Unconfirmed reports are circulating that a unit in an industrial estate in Santry is to be used to accommodate asylum seekers.
One post being shared around since yesterday says a busload of asylum seekers has already arrived after internet services and CCTV were spotted being installed, and a catering business was said to have entered the property.
Another post today claims the site is set up to accommodate up to 2,000 asylum seekers, but that figure is probably more of a wild guess.
There is no footage showing any asylum seekers on the site or evidence that that they are to be housed there, however video taken at the site today shows work is being carried out. One local says they saw security at the site changing shifts this morning.
A protest is being advertised for tomorrow morning outside the building which is about 3 kilometres from Dublin Airport at Unit 29 Airways Industrial Estate on Viscount Ave in Santry.
