The small village of Castletown Geoghegan in Westmeath (population 141) is set to accommodate 244 asylum seekers at Middleton Park, making them 63% of the village's inhabitants overnight. The community is said to be “shocked and outraged”.

It's unclear which variety of asylum seekers locals are to be made a minority in their village with.

The picture (possibly a stock image) accompanying the report shows army tents, but Middleton Park is another one of these old Georgian Houses (built in 1850). The 28-bedroom mansion once belonged to British army major George Boyd-Rochfort, grandson of the 2nd earl of Belvedere.

It has 34,000 sq ft of space and features an original Turner conservatory, barrel-vaulted ceilings in the basement and 12 acres of surrounding grounds.

In recent years this country estate has been in use as a restaurant and wedding venue but that venture ceased in 2016 and it fell into disrepair. Restoration work began in 2019 with it featuring on the RTÉ series Great House Revival.

The Irish Times are now stating unequivocally that 50,000 people attended the Ireland For All rally on Saturday. They're not even attributing this hoax figure to the organisers to give themselves some cover like RTÉ did yesterday. They're reporting it as fact (archived here). This disinformation has been widely spread online.

If you needed further proof the figure is a hoax, the video above shows the rally at The Custom House and so there are crowd density tools online like mapchecking.com to get an estimate of what number of people would fit into that space.

Their estimate is that 6,421people would fit into the space I marked off on Customs House Quay with the crowd density setting set to 'crowded'. Even if you set it to 100% packed (which it isn't) you still only get a figure of 12,591 and nowhere near their hoax figure of 50,000 people.

They might try to say some attendees had left by the time Steo Wall came on (and I wouldn't blame them) but over three quarters of them? Debunked!
