A fire has occurred at Rawlton House, a Victorian school dated from 1899 on Sherrard St in Dublin city.
Earlier, locals had spotted beds and cubicles being installed in the building which they believed were to accommodate asylum seekers though officials had told them that they weren't to be housed there.

Dubliners were protesting outside 21 Aungier St tonight after learning that 60 asylum seekers are to accommodated in the building.
Now called The Staircase, the historic building is one of Dublin's oldest townhouses and dates back to 1660 when the street was first developed.
It originally belonged to Richard Parsons, 1st Earl of Rosse from Twickenham, Middlesex, a Freemason and Grandmaster of the Grand Lodge of Ireland who was a founder-member of the Hellfire Club.
It was rescued from near demolition and restored to a high standard by Dublin Civic Trust in the 1990s, preserving its medieval features such as timber beams, chimneys, and walls and has one of the best preserved seventeenth-century staircases in the city.
It was previously reported that the building was used by the Peter McVerry Trust to house homeless people but that no longer seems to be the plan, and like its original occupants, it'll be used to house foreigners instead.

A moment of silence was held on Cappagh Rd in Finglas last night where a young woman was sexually assaulted on Friday. The huge crowd then marched to the Garda station and expressed their frustrations over safety in their community.
Gardaí talked to two local women privately who were they have a suspect in the assault but couldn't provide details.
Detective Garda Mark Ferris of the GRA has told the Examiner that gardaí are now "effectively on the frontline of what could almost be classed as an emerging conflict" and described recent protests in Finglas as "a state of near anarchy".
Protesters have been demanding to know why gardaí aren't vetting any asylum seekers but there seems to be reluctance to inform them that gardaí aren't allowed to request info about asylum seekers from any country they have alleged to have fled.
This is a political decision they're not responsible for, but if the Garda are to be a politicised police force, they should be instructed how to field political questions.

A number of businesses in the Mill Lane area of the town have been ordered to vacate their premises with immediate effect to facilitate the change in use of one property.
The second property apparently proposing a change is based on the Dublin Road where it is understood that the owner has purchased an adjoining house with the intention of combining the pair into a DP centre.
There's better money in the asylum racket for landlords and the impact on your community never matters to them.

Macroom community members blocked access to work trucks trying to enter a site where modular homes are to built for asylum seekers today.
The site is situated next to St. Colman's Cemetery, across the road from the Riverside Park Hotel which was used as a base for prostitutes after being converted into an asylum centre in 2019.
