I've posted before about how asylum seekers from Afghanistan, Somalia & Eritrea are now being expedited through the system and granted refugee status without requiring the usual process. I've since learned this also applies to applicants from Libya, Sudan & Yemen and continues to apply to Syrians.
It's possible some of those who are "losing their passports" are losing them in order to pretend to be from these countries.
While it's useful to highlight the massive amount of asylum seekers whose applications have been rejected over the last 25 years yet are rarely deported to expose the fraud in the system, Irish people cannot be expected to accommodate limitless numbers of those whose claims are accepted if they never return home (except on holiday).
Asylum seekers who are granted refugee status or subsidiary protection can apply for family reunification. All parties in the Dรกil except Fine Gael support expanding the scope of this scheme so that refugees can bring in grandparents, cousins, nephews, nieces and siblings as they were allowed to do before 2015. Before the scope of this scheme was reduced, Minister David Stanton said the average number of family members each refugee was applying to bring in was 20. Right now they can only apply to bring in parents, spouses and children under 18, but that can change.
You can apply for Irish citizenship three years after you make your asylum application if it is accepted. Those who are granted subsidiary protection or Leave To Remain can apply for Irish citizenship after five years.
Here are the population figures for the six countries mentioned at the top:
๐น Afghanistan 39.84 million
๐น Somalia 16.36 million
๐น Eritrea 6.081 million
๐น Libya 6.959 million
๐น Sudan 44.91 million
๐น Yemen 20.49 million
That's 131 million people who can potentially travel to Ireland, apply for asylum and will likely be granted refugee status or can be brought in using the family reunification scheme.
We are a small island of 7 million people.
You'll often hear the argument "Irish people were migrants too".
The Irish who remained in Ireland to struggle and fight for their nation didn't migrate anywhere, and we are their descendants. We are under no obligation to be displaced by unlimited foreigners.
We need another solution and I still think this idea is best one.

Three Afghan migrants have been convicted by an Austrian court for the rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl called Leonie in Vienna who was found dead, wrapped in a carpet next to a tree in 2021.
The judge presiding over the case said: โThey used the girl like an object and showed indifference to Leonieโs life.โ
The court found that the migrants had mixed seven ecstasy tablets into a drink and given it to Leonie to drink, so they could rape her. The autopsy revealed that she had died of both overdose and suffocation. The men all admitted to sexual activity with Leonie but insisted it was consensual during the trial.
One of the suspects fled the country following the killing and was not arrested until weeks later when he was discovered in London.

Yesterday I posted about an FOI request which asked for data on the last countries asylum seekers were in before arriving in Ireland. Because the request asked specifically about asylum seekers, the DoJ were able to deny access to any data as it's not part of an asylum seeker's record, curiously.
You'd think they should be interested in linking this data as under the Dublin III Regulation the State can send asylum seekers back to EU member states they were in.
Another person, however, just asked the DoJ for the countries of origin of all those initially refused permission to land at Dublin Airport. Above is that data from from January to July this year.
Helen McEntee has stated that 5,662 people have been refused leave to land up until October and 4,969 of them subsequently filed an asylum claim (88%).
The largest group come from unknown countries. Bit alarming that someone can get off a plane in Dublin Airport and border control can't figure out which one. 20 countries on the list are EU member states.

Female asylum seeker in East Wall tells the Irish Mirror that she is scared of the men in the former ESB building and that the diversity of the residents has caused a โclash of culturesโ.
"They stare at us in a bad way, you know."
โWe agree with the protests, we feel itโs not racist at all, itโs okay to protest.

Anger against the government in Cookstown, Tallaght, after more single male asylum seekers were dumped in an Industrial estate office block.
"It's time for the Irish to come out in their hundreds of thousands. We have to say enough is enough. The Irish people are tax slaves. We're paying for this. We're paying to see our own homeless people dying on the streets. We are paying to see our grandparents having no chance of getting their medical care that's badly needed."
"Why? Because of open borders."
"This ends when we say it ends. We should be outside the TDs' offices every day. Make their lives a fucking misery the way they make the Irish people's lives a misery! Because life is not good here anymore. It's over for the government. "

No, Nigel. That's just what you've been trying to subvert the protests into being about.

Nigel obviously hasn't been reading the placards or listening to the people in East Wall. This is what the protests have been about since the beginning.
