On the Northside of the Cairn is a kerbstone called Cathaior na Cailleach, the Witch's chair, or the Judgment seat.

Sitting upon this throne the Cailleach, who is associated with the winter months, and is said to control the weather, the winds as well as the length and harshness of winter, could sit gazing off into the North.

Today it is said, if you sit here and make a wish, the Cailleach will grant it for you.

Some detail missing in a report about a vicious assault on a young schoolgirl who was dragged along the ground by her hair and punched in her head outside St Mel's Cathedral in Longford:

>This is my daughter and the irish mirror didn't make contact with me before they went to press. I wish they would be more specific with their headline. My daughter was attacked by 3 African girls , if it was the other way round and my daughter was the assailant then I'm sure everyone would be quick to highlight that the victim was an African girl, and it would be called a "racist attack".

The Mirror reference the mother's original remarks on facebook (posted in the the third image above) so they know what she said, but chose to cover it up in their report.

Sudanese national, Ahmed Adudu has been sentenced to seven months in prison for punching his barrister in the face during a sitting of Galway District Court.

Mr Concannon explained there was โ€œa cultural disconnect with figures of authorityโ€ and he described his client was being โ€œbounced aroundโ€ quite a lot on his journey through Africa and all the way to Ireland.

Sergeant Aoife Curley, prosecuting, said Adudu had 15 previous convictions, including one for violent behaviour in a garda station.

Reading Dr Oโ€™Keeffeโ€™s report, Judge Fahy noted Adudu had a propensity towards violence and there was a threat of violence towards gardai mentioned in the report.

She noted a nurse had been assaulted too but had chosen not to make a formal complaint against Adudu.

JUST IN - Hungary to hold a referendum on the EU's sanctions imposed on Russia, Prime Minister Viktor Orbรกn announces.

"The sanctions were not decided democratically, but were decided by Brussels bureaucrats and European elites," he said on Monday.

Be funny if there was a low turnout and the unionists managed to sneak it. If it became a 3 or 4 horse race and Paddy couldn't decide between which half of jedward or what dragons den host they want as Uachtarรกn, unionists just standing one guy for the sake of it would probably end up winning.

There are two rates of jobsplus subsidy.

An employer can either be given โ‚ฌ7,500 or โ‚ฌ10,000 if they employ someone for two years who has been on the dole.

The different rates are dependent on the employee's age and how long they've been on the dole for.

The lower rate is also available to employers who employ someone refugee status, no other criteria attached.

So the subsidy was already discriminatory but now they're taking it a step further.

Employers will get the higher rate if the employee has a diversity factor.

Mรกirtรญn ร“ Cadhain predicts the future of Ireland without the Irish language.

"If we lose the Irish language, we'll lose our native literature. We'll only have English or American literature. That will be our demise as a people. The vision that every generation of Irish people had will be at an end."

Mรกirtรญn ร“ Cadhain predicts the future of Ireland without the Irish language. "If we lose the Irish language, we'll lose our native literature. We'll only have English or American literature. That will be our demise as a people. The vision that every generationโ€ฆ
"The future looks bleak unless the Irish Language is restored. We'll be little more than a 'Little England'. It would be pointless being an independent state. It would be much better to be part of a larger state and to enjoy the economy of that larger state, rather than struggling on our own. I see no point to that. The only reason we deserve independence, I think, is that we have a unique cultural identity."

Mรกirtรญn ร“ Cadhain (died 1969) summing a lot of this up in this brilliant clip about what was going on in the 1960s mindset. What he's saying here is exactly it - if we are not Irish speaking, then there's 2 options. Fight to revive it and continue the Gaelic Revival and revolution sprung from 1916-22 or disband it and instead focus on material/economic matters.

And the latter is what the Reactionary Liberals of the 1960s wanted to do. The reason I'm calling them 'Reactionary' is because they sought to overturn the advancements that the Irish Nation-State had made since 1922 (but mostly since 1932 with Dev's Fianna Fรกil) in asserting itself. They rejected the idea of an 'Irish-Ireland' pushed by Griffith, Rooney, D.P Moran, Pearse, Aodh de Blรกcam, Connolly, A.E Russell etc.

When Ireland hit a road block in economics in the 1950s due to failure of reforming banking/currency system and failing to nourish an entrepreneurial class and reverting for the easy option of foreign capital in 1958 to stimulate the economy (then totalling relying on it) - instead of taking up the task to tackle these matters and continue the stride of the struggling Nation-State, these 'liberals' who got a taste of foreign capital and British/American media, wanted to instead reverse it all and become a 'Little England' or simply an state within some larger global body like the EEC and forget about sovereignty.

"We want nothing to do with a backward-looking idea of sovereignty." as Micheรกl Martin exclaims today.

They wanted the reverse of what Thomas Davis sung:
And lreland, long a province, be
A Nation once again!

No! - Reactionary Liberals don't want Ireland a Nation - they want Ireland as a mere Province.
