A couple of African ladies and a Dublin taxi driver discuss the practice of foreigners impregnating Irish women in order to acquire Irish citizenship.

They start off talking about the rental market in Ireland and how slumlords are packing their properties with bunkbeds to cater to Brazilians and Chinese who "just want a roof over their heads".

The conversation then moves on to how Brazilians "are mad for the Irish girls" as an avenue to acquire Irish citizenship. One of the women explains how African men would target the most undesirable Irish women to impregnate, abandoning them once they had acquired their Irish citizenship papers.

"...and then they give them babies, and once they had their documents, they were gone."

Turns out I was wrong and these guys haven't been reading any Connolly. They just like the brand.

They must only be squatting in a hostel which is earmarked to accommodate foreigners because there's a severe shortage of buildings which aren't.

>"We proclaim the right of all people in Ireland to housing regardless of their nationality or ethnicity..."

This is the government's position.

That's why they want to house foreigners in the building the Revolutionary Workers Union are squatting in.

That's why up to 40% of people presenting as homeless every month are recently arrived immigrants from all over the world. They're not even bothered pretending to be asylum seekers any more.

The RWU support them coming here. They support housing them. The government is trying to do that for them.

This guy blurs his face like he's saying something dangerous but he has the same detrimental position as the government.

"The Labour Movement in Ireland stands for the ownership of all Ireland by all the Irish; it therefore fights against all things calculated to weaken the hold of the Irish upon Ireland, as it fights for all things calculated to strengthen the grasp of the Irish people upon Ireland and all things Irish."

The lads enjoying a cluiche iomรกna in The Northman.

It's a major scene, not just background decoration, and it's well done. One of them even does a solo run.

There's a small number of audibly Irish slaves in minor roles but hurling was a common sport, played by the Vikings too.

In the film they call a camรกn a 'knatttrรฉ'. Knattleikir is the Icelandic for ball game. The sliotar isn't referenced by name but it looks to have familiar stitching.

Analysis of mitochondrial DNA in modern Icelanders showed that about two thirds of this DNA was of Gaelic origin. Mitochondria is only inherited from mothers, so it is believed the early settlers of Iceland were mostly Nordic men and Gaelic women.

The discovery of over a hundred crosses carved into man-made caves in the southern Iceland has lead some people to theorise that Christians from Ireland and Scotland settled the island before the Vikings arrived due to their design style.

They say they can accurately date one of the caves by finding and analysing construction waste to around the year 800.

There's also an oral tradition that the caves of Hella were built by monks from Ireland known as papar who inhabited Iceland before the Vikings.
