More than 2,000 undocumented migrants have been granted permission to stay under a special government scheme.

Most of those given permission to remain in Ireland are former language school students who continued working here after their visas expired

According to figures from the Department of Justice, around 2,253 out of the 3,016 undocumented migrants who applied were accepted under the “Special Scheme for Students

The figure mainly involves former English language school students who had stayed on working in jobs here after their visas expired.

They were granted permission to stay here after paying a €350 fee and being subjected to Garda vetting. They were also allowed to get permission to remain for children and other family members who were already living here.

Police arrested 11 people and closed a restaurant after two human heads wrapped in cellophane were discovered at a hotel restaurant that had been serving human flesh.

A tip-off led police to the macabre discovery in Anambra, Nigeria, with 11 people being arrested and AK-47 guns and other weapons being seized.

Human flesh was apparently being sold as an expensive treat at the restaurant, with authorities saying that roasted human head was even on the menu.

Dr Gabriel Scally, Director of Public Health at the University of Bristol told the Seán O Rourke show that there needs to be a serious look at imported cases of Covid-19 at the sea ports and airports on an all-Ireland basis because the experience of China showed that when they had gotten rid of domestic cases of the disease, infected Chinese people returning home to the country were still bringing the virus with them.

Dr. Scally suggested that facilities need to be put in place at the sea ports and airports which would enable the authorities to check or test anyone coming into the country and take their travel details and plans. If they are found to be unwell, they should be quarantined.

Dr. Scally said he did worry that people had phone him and said that people from the UK were still coming off ferries in cars and that sort of travel needs to be stopped particularly from the UK as there was no community testing going on at all.
