'Very, very serious legitimacy crisis with the whole EU project over Coronavirus mishandling' -Prof. Niamh Hourigan

Prof. Niamh Hourigan, Vice President of Academic Affairs at Mary Immaculate College Limerick, told the Brendan O’Connor show that she believed the EU project was hugely damaged by its mishandling of the Coronavirus pandemic as the virus has heightened national identities, closed borders and exposed a very significant absence of solidarity.

She said the floated idea of a Corona bond was the right thing to do in order to "share the pain" amongst EU member states and facilitate low-borrowing rates.

Nine countries have supported the idea including Ireland but the last EU council meeting decided it was completely off the agenda.

"I think you're looking at a very serious legitimacy crisis with the whole European project."

The Burkean's Irish Antifa Project: Aoife Gallagher from Storyful

Over the course of our conversation with Storyful journalist Aoife Gallagher, The Burkean learnt of the monitoring techniques used against the right wing online. These included the use of specialized software in monitoring Facebook groups for activism against Direct Provision centres, as well as regular monitoring of the activity of the “éire/pol/’ thread on 4chan.

The conversation also revealed how left-leaning journalists spin stories against the Irish right. When asked for advice about how one could hide one’s bias when writing a story, Ms Gallagher described how she would avoid using terms such as ‘far-right’ so as to not appear biased. Instead, she suggested using terms like ‘conspiracy theorist’ to describe those on the right.

PBP gonna get metoo'd:

An open letter to Richard Boyd Barrett, Paul Murphy & Bríd Smith from the Connolly Youth Movement - "Sexual Abuse in Your Party"

We in the Connolly Youth Movement overwhelmingly support any members who have been survivors, or know, of the horrendous actions within your organisations, and will do everything in our power to support them. The list of crimes and cover-ups by the members of People Before Profit, in particular, has become too long. The majority, if not all, of the abuse seems to be men praying on women.

>Richard Boyd Barrett has warned that hundreds of students [actually thousands] in language schools around the country are living in cramped conditions with no supports during the COVID-19 outbreak.

>According to the survey, only 12.5% have been granted access to the Covid-19 Pandemic Payment, with many rejected because they have not yet worked in Ireland, do not have a PPS or GNIB number or have not been registered with Revenue by their employer.

If they are "learning English", have no PPS number and aren't registered with the revenue, don't they have enough funds to survive whether or not classes are on.

If they are actually just pretending to learn English in order to work here then why aren't registered with the revenue?

Bottom line is, there are thousands of migants who use the English school visa farm racket to work here. They're off the books. The govt has encouraged the practice and now they're looking for a hand-out.

They live in cramped conditions to lower their overhead. This increases housing prices for Irish people and undermines the labour market. You'll never hear Richard Boyd Barrett mention this.
