Some comments on Hacker News suggest the Visa and Mastercard service denial in Russia might not affect local payments.

>In Russia, all contry-local Visa and MasterCard payments are processed by country-owned NSPK system https://nspk.com

>So all local payments will work, but no abroad payments (and no foreign cards to pay locally in Russia).

>Russia has a home-grown card payment network (Mir) that accounts for 25% of payments. It will probably grow because of the sanctions.

The war over who the REAL Nazis are rages on as Germany joins the battle.

-You are.
-No, you.

The breadth of debate in geopolitics is no different that at the local level.

'Is there anything to be said for having another swim, Ted.'

Let the record show that as the body count racked up, these people couldn't even muster anything remotely close to an accurate assessment of what lead up to the invasion.

They'd let every Ukrainian die for the expansion of their project.

In the mean time, let's go for a swim.
Big smiles.

Excellent engagement with constiuents today, most shocked and appalled that a direct provision centre is now operating in their area, while they themselves are shown the cold shoulder by successively incompetent governments.

Likely fodder shortage in Ireland because of the avoidable War in Ukraine for International Finance parasites.
This country is on the brink of a self sufficiency cliff as well as a global financial collapse.

This is a selection of quotes about the Scottish Presbyterian Planter Stock in Ireland who left for America in the 1700s.

I'm not quite the same as them, but that reversion to the wild like a wild pig growing tusks and thick fur is exactly what I think will happen to the soft and squishy well fed Irish people of today when we get a couple decades of hardship, and we will be getting it in this generation or the next.

"The Ulster immigrants became more Indianized than any other settler group, basing their calendar of farm work, their natural medicines and their fighting habits on what had been traditional for centuries among the natives of America."

“This rapid transformation in appearance quickly set them apart from the wigs and buckles and frilly shirts of New England. Almost immediately the frontier revitalized the hunter-warrior encoding in their bloodline. In a belt around their waist, they wore a tomahawk and a scalping knife for hunting and self-defense. Skill with a rifle and knife were essential to survival, and a good marksman had great status in his community."

"They would not go to America as Scots or Irishmen. A century of turmoil in the beautiful but tormented hills of Ulster had changed them. They were farmers and fighters, these two callings inseparable in their history and culture. But they were now a different people. Their blood and traditions had been shaped by centuries in Scotland, then both hardened and sentimentalized by Ireland. And yet neither land would ever again fully claim them. They were the unsung orphans of both."

"The Scots-Irish settlers were superb frontiersmen in early Colonial America. Their experiences over the previous centuries in the Scottish Borders and then fighting the Irish nationalists and Catholics in Northern Ireland had made them well used to danger and hardship. They were ideally suited to the work that lay ahead in the movement west."

"The clothes he brought from Ireland wore out quickly as he moved through heavy undergrowth. Much of his first year's food supply came from hunting, so animal skins replaced cloth. And being highly adaptable, he took on an Indian style of dress, hunting shirt, deerskin breeches, and moccasins. He allowed his hair to grow long. Within a year on the frontier, the transformation would be complete."

Coming up next, I'm going to highlight some of the reactions to the invasion of Ukraine among the Irish political class that I didn't get around to commenting on last week....
Richard Boyd iphone has received global attention for this rant against Jews in the Dáil. There's over 300K views on this video.

It's nothing you haven't seen before. Rich wants to know why the decision to sanction Russia was effortless yet the powers that be won't sanction Israel for genociding Muslims and stealing their land.

He looks so frustrated I think he genuinely doesn't know the answer. Nobody wants to explain it to him, but I don't think he'd like to hear the real reason anyway.

I could point him towards some good sources of knowledge but he'd just call me an antisemite.
