A video that was promoted by a campaign group for ending direct provision which purported to show an asylum seeker being served food in a plastic bag was, like 90% of asylum seekers, fake.
The video was viewed 192K times on twitter alone, shared by politicians and was spotlighted by thejournal.ie without fact-checking its veracity.
The asylum seeker involved had been reprimanded for an entirely separate issue and is alleged to have ‘set up’ the circumstances of this video in retaliation.

An anaesthetist is currently being investigated over complaints of suspected sexual abuse of unconscious patients at Naas General Hospital.
Dr Aamir Zuberi has since left Ireland and returned to his home country, Pakistan. The criminal case against him has been stalled as a result.
The suspected instances of sexual abuse involve four patients. The concerns were brought up by staff members who informed the gardaí and hospital management.

'Agents provocateurs ruin anti-lockdown rally in Brussels.'
In Brussels last Sunday, 30,000 people attended a "Together For Freedom" rally to protest the government's handling of Covid19.
The protest resulted in riots and the destruction of property but according to the organisers, they have footage showing that it was the police who instigated it all.
They have now filed a complaint with the Police Ombudsman Commission and sent them the footage.
There is now a ban on showing this footage publicly while it is being investigated.
"We have a lot of images showing that the rioters are the police themselves. We have images of plainclothes police arriving with scooters and black suits, posing as protesters and throwing stones at police. We have it all in pictures"
The police consequently divided the protest in two, and began spraying tear gas using water cannons on the protestors.
"Tear gas was launched at a peaceful speech at the Schuman roundabout, forcing me to end the demonstration".

A professor and two of her colleagues at Lund University in Sweden have been accused of conducting and publishing illegal research after performing a study which found that the majority of sexual violence is committed by immigrants to the country.
They based their study on a sample of 3,000 convictions in rape cases between 2000 and 2015, before the enormous 2015 influx of migrants from the Middle East and Africa.
The goal of the study was not to inquire into the perpetrators’ ethnic background, but to see if there were common denominators in health issues, social status, employment, etc. The revelations about the ethnic profile were only an ancillary finding, but they were impossible to ignore.
“Immigrants were just a variable, and it turned out to be quite a remarkable discovery as there were many immigrants and foreign-born people in this group,” said Kristina Sundquist who is the most cited professor at her university regarding social research, but now may face prosecution.
