Members of the public are being requested to report suspected sightings of non-native crayfish or dead native white-clawed crayfish through this online form as there are reports of a suspected outbreak of crayfish plague in the midlands.

The white-clawed crayfish (above) is a globally threatened species and Ireland holds one of the largest surviving populations.

If crayfish plague continues to spread and become established, there is a high probability that the native White-clawed Crayfish will be eliminated from much of the island.

The establishment of non-native crayfish in Britain and Europe has been that these species have very severe impacts on habitats and other species.

There could also be a potential impact on salmon and trout fisheries with the loss of tourism revenue from these fisheries.

Earlier plague outbreaks have affected the Lorrha river in north Tipperary; Bruskey/Erne river in Co Cavan; the Suir, downstream of Clonmel; and the Deel, downstream of Newcastle West in Co Limerick.

So this the reason we just got a shipment of 700,000 so-called vaccines from Romania is because the Romanian govt has started closing down all vax centres. 70% of the population refuses to get "vaccinated".
