Youtube is now applying an age restriction gate to videos they want to soft-censor. You need to provide a credit card or ID to Google to bypass it. It's evident that they are targeting content where anti-globalisation is a theme, even tiny channels with less than 500 subscribers.

If you want to avoid this: On Windows, Mac or Linux you can download freeyoutubeapp.

You can download your youtube subscriptions as a json file from youtube and then import them into freeyoutube app in the settings (instructions here). Freeyoutubeapp does not use youtube's official API due to restrictions, opting instead for an independent scraper API originally developed for the now defunct Invidious project.

On Android, you can use the New Pipe app. There is an APK on github you can download and manually install as their app is not allowed in the Google Play store. It also uses the Invidious scraper API.

On iphone, you might be able to use the VLC app (search for "VLC for Mobile" in the app store). Then tap "Open a new network stream" in the menu and paste in the URL of a video you are trying to view.

Yesterday we were teased into believing Pat Kenny was going have another hilarious segment on the far-roight community in Ireland but his guest as it turned it was just Storyful's Aoife Gallagher who was given free reign to blame conspiracy theorists for inciting people into disagreeing with the way the government are handling the covid-19 fiasco.

I thought licenced broadcasters were under orders to at least feign some kind of debate when people get accused of something but that doesn't seem to be the case here. Aoife refuses to name the people she's calling conspiracy theorists so maybe that's the loop hole they use to act so disingenuously.

At one point Aoife does blame the National Party for spreading conspiracy theories that make people oppose the government's response to covid-19 so I don't know why they can't get an invite onto Newstalk now.
