Socially cohesive societies with strong group identity are best equipped to deal with pandemics
Pete Lunn, head of the Behavioural Research Unit at the ESRI was asked what was the most effective way to encourage people to do what is in their own best interest in light of the advice being given to citizens over the Coronavirus pandemic.
Lund said this is what is known as a collective action problem as all of our behaviour affects the behaviour of everyone around us and the risk that all of us catch the disease.
He said there are three things we know about solving collective action problems.
1. You have to be clear about why people should do things they need to do.
2. The stronger our group identity, the more likely it is that people comply.
3. We need social disapproval.

Close Everything. Stop Travel. The real danger is we are going to be doing battlefield level triage.
Prof. John Crown, oncologist at St. Vincent's Private Hospital told the Tonight Show that we could soon be in a posiition where we can't give oxygen to all the people who require it if the projections are correct. He said the real danger is that hospitals are going to have to do battlefield level triage and the stories coming out of Italy are horrific where medics are doing work that they never thought they'd be doing in a western world.
Asked for advice as to what to do, he said the goverment needs to be doing everything that Italy is doing now including closing everything and stopping travel.

Pakistanis living in Greece protest in Athens
Just to show you the a snapshot of the diversity levels in Athens.
This happened around September 2016.
The news report calls them Muslims but you can clearly hear them chant "Pakistan".
They know where their allegiance lies.
About 50,000 Pakistanis live in Greece according to the Pakistani embassy there although it is unknown if this figure includes Pakistanis born in Greece and all those who have acquired Greek citizenship.

Ireland's Bogus Beggars [TV3 documentary on Roma Gypsies | 2011]
These are clips from a 2011 documentary on Roma Gypsies which aired on TV3 called Ireland's Bogus Beggars.
I doubt it would even be allowed to be made today.
The documentary started out well interviewing numerous high-profile people who all agreed the Roma are a problem and that they engage in organised begging as a racket.
It then interviewed some people who wanted to solve the problem through deportation. They cast them as "far-right extremists" but at least they let them speak. In 2020, they wouldn't get air time.
Towards the end however, the documentary switched gears and finished by claiming that Roma don't engage in organised begging and only individuals do because they suffer discrimination.
I'll stick the full documentary up later.
