When a deportation order is issued in Ireland, the obligation is on the person to self-deport.
At a Joint Committee meeting on the 11th of July 2018, Michael Kirrane, Director General of INIS at the Department of Justice admitted that when a deportation order is issued to someone, the obligation is on the person to remove themselves from the state.
"We can't be precise about how many actually do because we don't have exit checks."
He said that normally in a year, the Dept of Justice would issue about 1,000 deportation orders and about 140 or 150 would have been "affected in a particular year".

Minister for Health Simon Harris told reporters that banning flights simply wouldn't work to stop the spread of the COVID-19 Coronavirus into Ireland.
He said free movement was at the core of the European Union and it needs to work together on all decisions and Ireland would always act in unison with the European Commission and the World Health Organisation.

Gardaí are monitoring comments on a Facebook group opposed to the new direct provision centre in Offaly [FULL]
The "Tullamore Says No To Inhuman Direct Provision" group is planning to protest tomorrow, after local reps and the public voiced concern over a lack of consultation with the Department of Justice.
Local woman Lorraine Dormer has been speaking out about the contents of the social media forum, in which she says people are making racist comments and spreading false information about the arrival of asylum seekers.
She's reported it to Gardaí, who she says are now investigating the matter.
In 2016, Eurostat revealed that 90% of asylum applicants fail their claim in Ireland.
In 2017, the ESRI revealed that 80% of deportation orders against failed asylum seekers are never implemented.

Irish NGOs attacked by Greek patriots in Lesbos
Two Irish doctors volunteering in a camp for asylum seekers in Greece were among a group of volunteers who were attacked by locals on the Greek island of Lesbos who wielded planks of wood and baseball bats last night.
"Our organisers had arranged some volunteers from some of the other NGOs to help to drive us. There were roadblocks everywhere. Anger was directed towards the ports where there were some boats trying to land with refugees. They were very angry with NGOs, they seem to believe the NGOs were encouraging refugee arrivals.
"We went in five little rental cars driven by predominantly volunteers from Drop in the Ocean down the country roads. As we approached, there were angry mobs on the road, very angry people with a lot of weapons and sticks, some on foot, some on motorbikes and they started to attack the cars. They shattered all the windscreens with big whacks from planks of wood."
