Ireland has been downgraded in an assessment of its response to eliminating human trafficking by a US State department annual report, meaning the country has not increased its efforts to eliminate trafficking.

There have no been human trafficking convictions here since 2013.

You can search all the news articles but you won't find any suggestions as to who might be responsible for the huge levels of human trafficking occurring in Ireland.

But a report from 2015 offers a clue:

Back then, the Immigrant Council said organised crime gangs were earning €600k per day by running an international sex trafficking network stretching from Nigeria and Cameroon to Ireland.

So we've known about the problem since 2015 and nothing has been done.

John tells the story of his father who was robbed by up to ten Roma women. They had asked him for some charity for their children and when he opened his wallet, they pushed him up against a court house wall in Cork and mugged him.

John also recounts a recent encounter he had with Roma in a charity shop. He noticed a gang of them robbing the place. The staff were doing nothing about it. They spoke little English. John threatened to call the gardaí on them. The Roma taunted him to do it and when he did, they scarpered.

The Gardaí told him there was nothing they could do about it — that they couldn't search the Roma and they were under-resourced anyway.
