Long rotations have become one of the key problems for Ukraine due to a shortage of personnel.

Serhiy is a combat medic. His first rotation lasted about 45 days, followed by two more - 30 days each, followed by a short vacation.

In July 2024, he was transferred to the 30th Mechanized Brigade and sent to a new position in the Donetsk region. The position was regularly attacked, some of soldiers were killed.

“We were told that there were no replacements. Then I realized that this was for a long time.”

Hope appeared in the fall, when they reported on the radio that preparations for evacuation were being prepared. However, due to weather conditions, it was postponed several times. About 20 days later, the attempt was repeated: two soldiers crawled out of the bunker into a trench littered with garbage and the remains of Russian soldiers.

A few days later, Sergeant Tyshchenko was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine.
