In an unusual move the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) officially banned the use of Chinese-made automobiles and began collecting them from officers in the field, this decision was made after security agencies concluded there is a real concern about leaking sensitive information or espionage through the vehicle systems. This is another step in a policy to limit the use of Chinese vehicles, after their entry into military bases was previously banned.

Offcially the IDF and the Israeli MOD operate a sizeable fleet of Chinese-made commercial vehicles and acquired them mainly through leasing programs, Chinese vehicles in service include;

🚗 600+ Chery Tiggo 8 crossovers.
🚗 Hundreds of MG-ZS pick-up trucks.
🚗 1,000+ BYD Atto 3 EV SUV (Planned delivery, currently suspended pending IDF inspection)

A former IDF senior officer explained:

"The problem is not limited to cameras and microphones. Every smart vehicle is essentially a moving computer with a closed operating system and wireless communications, which allows the possibility of collecting intelligence information from sensitive infrastructures."
