He was killed in a shootout with the police in a forested area near the slums. In typical fashion with these people his mother insists “he was the goodest of little angels” that “didnt do nuthin wrong” and totally wasnt skinning people alive for a few dollars during the weekends

On paper, Trump and Co. wanting to defend the Christians of Nigeria is a good thing, truly; however, I doubt his intentions are genuine.
Christians happen to be persecuted in Myanmar and India too, and Syrian President Al-Shaar, who led HTS (formerly the Al-Nusra Front), also has a history in this subject, and yet we don’t hear Trump over this.
Also for context, there is communal violence in Nigeria, but the conflict is largely dominated by Boko Haram and IS, who are actively fighting the Nigerian government, so it’s not like they are truly responsible or not doing anything either.

To give my opinion, I believe the Trump administration wants to secure something in Nigeria. I have many theories on what, but it could be the control of the strategic Gulf of Guinea, which is a very important hub for maritime commerce in the region, or simply resources.
At the end, no matter what, it is Trump who is playing with people's emotions to put additional pressure on Nigeria and to get a casus belli that would be acceptable in the eyes of the public if things were to go the hard way.
