Estimated permanent losses among contract soldiers total 182,311 in 2023 and 251,096 in 2024 (433,407 combined), rising from approximately 15,000 to 21,000 per month, or 43–45% of the active contract force annually.

“Permanent losses” are primarily killed or seriously wounded, but may also include deserters, prisoners or transfers.
