Rep. Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, has asked FIFA president Gianni Infantino to testify and turn over records about FIFA's relationship with Trump.

Raskin is seeking communications between FIFA and the Trump administration, details of gifts or benefits provided to Trump or his associates, and records related to FIFA's move into Trump Tower, the FIFA Peace Prize awarded to Trump, and the World Cup ticketing controversy.

He also questioned the Justice Department's decision to drop parts of a long-running FIFA corruption case, suggesting FIFA may have sought favorable treatment.

While Democrats currently lack the power to compel Infantino's testimony, Raskin warned that a Democratic House majority after the midterm elections could lead to subpoenas and a broader investigation into FIFA's ties to the Trump administration.

There is currently a potentially massive split ongoing in world football

FIFA president Gianni Infantino is planning to create a company to run the World Cup and other FIFA organized events. Large stakes of this company would be sold to private investors linked to the Trump family.

FIFA as it stands is officially a Non-profit organization, something which has long bothered the most corrupt of the sport.

This blatant corruption would only drastically speed up the commercialization of football while simultaneously earning Infantino large sums of cash.

UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) has already reacted to this and publicly condemned the move. Infantino and UEFA have always been on shaky terms with each other however this may be the straw that breaks the camels back.

UEFA will hold an emergency meeting with all their 55 member associations. It's entirely possible UEFA could threaten to boycott FIFA organized events like the World Cup and Club World Cup to make Infantino back down.

For those unaware, Infantino has a near unassailable position as FIFA president right now

The way the voting works is that each of the 211 FIFA national associations have 1 vote and the president is chosen by simple majority.

Infantino has built a massive support network from the historically less successful Asian, African and North American confederations.

Via actions like expanding the world cup so worse teams, mostly from Asia and Africa, can have a chance at getting in he has bought large amounts of influence

Meanwhile he hasn't exactly hidden his dislike for UEFA and CONMEBOL (South America)

Despite being by far the best at football Europe and South America alone cannot outvote the rest of the world

Thus all the two federations can do is exert influence on FIFA via the facts they have the best Leagues, Clubs, Players and national teams and thus their boycott would rob any FIFA organized tournament of most of their top tier competitors

Just to add to this - Infantino is speculated to become the "Chairman" of this new organisation, landing him personally millions of dollars in salary even after he can no longer be president of FIFA (due to term limits)
